Dear Involved parents (5)
When some children were asked to describe what they feel and think about their parents, these were some of their answers:
Hannah : Mummy is so wonderful but l would love to see her more.
Alex: l love my daddy, but he never comes to my school events like other daddies.
Prince : l want my dad and mum not phones and tablets.
Daniel : l want home made food not food from eateries.
Lizzy : l am always sad , my grades are low and my friends bully me and l don't know who to talk to cause my parents traveled out and left me in the care of their siblings.
Abigail : l have been sexually abused for the past three years and my parents are still unaware.
George : l just want to kill myself cause My parents hate me and that was why they abandoned me.
The society today is experiencing some level of decadence. Our churches are packed with people who are mentally, spiritually and physically sick. And these people didn't jump down from heaven, they were once kids. They were once children living with parents.
The product of the work parents put in, in the lives of their children are the apparent results we see today in our society.
As a parent, what template are you making use of in raising your kids?
Why are our children giving such reports about us and why are they turning out the way they are?
My kids recently shared with me about a particular girl child who comes to school in torn uniform, carrying unkempt hair, her water bottle at one time was filled with brown water and many times she comes to school with sour and smelling food.
They described her as always sad and moody, often sits alone in the class and with bad grades.
Tears filled my eyes as l imagined all that could be going on in the life of this little child.
While my children tried to calm me down, I asked if this girl was living with her parents. They strongly affirmed that she lived with 'both' her parents and that, they are very very rich. So, money wasn't a problem.
They also added that her parents never come for open house or any school event including the graduation ceremony of her elder sister.
My heart bleeds each time l remember this little girl, and l am thinking of how to help by reaching out to the teacher first.
Several times, teachers have reported cases of children coming to school with bad food and dirty drinking water and when investigated, the nannies were mostly the culprits and that's because the parents were unavailable and too busy to notice any I'll meted out on their children.
How involved are you in the affairs of your child?
Do you have the complete, detailed information about all that is going on in the life of your child?
When l say your 'child' l don't mean only the younger kids. A child still under the care of his/her parents who is not yet an adult is still a child. Even adults still remain children as far as the parents are concerned.
Some parents are so busy that they have replaced themselves with tablets and phones in the lives of their children/teenagers.
Some caregivers are more a parent to your children than you are.
What are you pursuing in this life?
What will your children remember you for?
What will be your legacy?
Have you chosen Money, Career, Fame, Certifications, Pride of life, above your CHILDREN and home?
Which do you think God will judge you 'by' on the day of judgement?
Your children desperately need your attention. They need you to be available and fully involved in every aspect of their lives. They want to talk to you, play with you and share their daily activities with you.
May God never regret giving you that child or children in your care the way HE regretted making Saul king.
It is not too late to create the changes and make the sacrifices required.
Always remember that, parenting is a calling and an assignment for every parent on earth and we shall give account of what we did with HIS children. Even here on earth, we shall reap whatever we sew in their lives.
