Dr. Kevin Strother, the Head of Music at The Heights School, Potomac, Maryland said "Music develops analytical thinking because it requires students to be creative. They don't just regurgitate memorized facts. They have to apply those facts".

For us, the ultimate goal of music education is to help students develop a life long involvement in music, knowing fully well that not all students will eventually become professional musicians or scholars.

It is therefore important to ensure that students can read and write music, analyze music, perform and create music on their instrument of choice. To create music, one must first develop critical listening skills and understand basic concepts in music. The application of these concepts is what facilitates musical composition, either through composing original pieces or simply improvising over ready made music.

Application, as mentioned by Dr. Kevin Strother's quote above is an important aspect of music.
