Unlike gender, the disability rights agenda is nascent in Nigeria. Estimates suggest that about 29 million Nigerians were living with some form of disability, including visual, hearing, physical, intellectual, and communication impairments.

Children, just like every human, are entitled to rights which have been described by some as fundamental and inalienable to human existence. The right to education is one of such rights and is essential in the development of man and his society. Disability stands as a major hindrance in the actualization of the right to education of children in Nigeria. This paper examines the plights of Nigerian children with disabilities as it relates to their right to education. It highlights the physical, social and attitudinal barriers children with disabilities face which negate and hamper their right to education. The discussion in this paper is hinged on the legal regime that affects the right to education of the Nigerian child with disabilities which include: Nigeriaโ€™s Constitution; Nigeriaโ€™s Childโ€™s Right Act; the Convention on the Rights of the Child; Universal Declaration of Human Rights; and the African Charter on Human and Peoples Right. It posits that attitudinal change and need for the adoption of best practice are the panacea for the protection of the right of education of Nigerian children with disabilities.

Every year World Pulses Day is celebrated on February 10 with an aim to spread awareness about the nutritional and environmental benefits of pulses as part of sustainable food production.
Pulses are affordable, environmentally friendly, nutritious foods with a long shelf-life. In particular, they are excellent sources of protein, fiber, minerals, vitamins, and phenolic compounds and can prevent and control chronic diseases. Due to their high nutritional density, consumption of pulses may be significant for childrenโ€™s development and improved learning outcomes in the classroom

The International Organization revealed that, only 47 percent of schools in Borno have furniture with the lower proportions, in Yobe 32, and Adamawa 26. While in terms of learning materials, said that, in Adamawa, only 30 percent of schools have adequate learning materials for the pupils with the lower proportions, Borno 26 and Yobe 25 respectably.
The UNICEF announced during a one- day media dialogue and field trip with education Correspondents from the Borno, Adamawa and Yobe on Wednesday, in Maiduguri.
The dialogue was organised by the Child Rights Information Bureau (CRIB) of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture in collaboration with United Nations Childrenโ€™s Fund (UNICEF).
The dialogue held at Amada International Hotel, Maiduguri, Borno state capital aimed to amplify the achievements made in the education sector.
UNICEF Chief of Maiduguri Field Office, Phuong T. Nguyen, in her welcome address said โ€œit is therefore little wonder that according to the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS 2021), less than half of children, which is 48.6 per cent complete their primary school education in North-east Nigeria.
Mrs T. Nguyen explained that the media dialogue is to share the achievements made in the education sector in the North- east BAY states and stressed that one major accomplishment is the teachersโ€™ training programme of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Accelerated Funding (AF) project.
The Field Officer added that it is the initiative of the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Teachersโ€™ Institute (NTI) and the Teachersโ€™ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
According to her the training programme has supported over 18,000 unqualified teachers working in North-east Nigeria to study and pass the TRCNโ€™s qualifying examination.
โ€œAt least 1 million girls and boys will benefit as these newly certified teachers return to their classrooms equipped with modern and effective teaching methods, including the skills to provide gender-sensitive and psychosocial support to learners.โ€ She said.

International Day of Education

Education is a human right, a public good and a public responsibility.

Axiom would like to dedicate the fifth edition of this International Day to all the chibok girls, who have been denied their right to learn, study and teach.

According to The head of the Intelligence Unit of Operation Hadin Kai, Colonel Obinna Ezuipke โ€œOut of the 276 abducted Chibok girls, 57 girls escaped in 2014 while 107 girls were released in 2018. "Three girls were recovered in 2019, two in 2021 and 9 were rescued in 2022, bringing the total of 178 girls out of captivity and 98 remaining in Boko Haram captivity,โ€ he said

The Organization condemns this serious attack on human dignity, the girl child and on the fundamental right to education.
