CALL FOR PROPOSALS | GAFSP 9th Call for Country-led Projects 2026

The Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) has launched a new US$163 million funding call to support agriculture, food security, and climate resilience projects across eligible low-income countries.

The programme will fund high-impact, scalable projects designed to strengthen food systems, improve rural livelihoods, and support smallholder farmers.

Funding Available

Approximately US$163 million in grant financing will support 6–10 projects globally.

Priority Areas Include:
➡️ Agricultural productivity
➡️ Climate resilience
➡️ Food systems transformation
➡️ Rural livelihoods
➡️ Nutrition-sensitive agriculture
➡️ Market access and value chains
➡️ Women and youth empowerment
➡️ Sustainable agriculture

Projects must address at least two cross-cutting priorities:
➡️ Climate resilience
➡️ Women and girls’ empowerment
➡️ Nutrition improvement

Eligible Regions Include:
➡️ Africa
➡️ Asia-Pacific
➡️ South Asia
➡️ Latin America & Caribbean
➡️ Middle East
➡️ Europe & Central Asia

Who Can Apply?

Applications must be submitted by eligible national governments in partnership with approved supervising entities and relevant stakeholders.

What does the 2026 flood prediction mean for your community, your work, or even the coming farming season?

As Nigeria prepares for the peak of the rains, many communities, farmers, institutions, and media organisations are already asking important questions around flood risks, preparedness, food production, and early response. Yet, one major challenge remains: how do we simplify flood information so people can actually understand and use it

To support this, Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre), in collaboration with the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, is organizing a free virtual nationwide training and sensitisation programme on the 2026 Annual Flood Outlook (AFO).

The programme is designed for: farmers and farmer cooperatives, community leaders and local responders, media professionals, civil society organisations, government agencies and extension workers, youth and women groups, researchers and development practitioners… in short every one of us.

Participants will gain practical understanding of what the flood predictions mean for agriculture and food security, early preparedness and risk-reduction actions and other life skills.

Reality Check
Most people think climate change is a future problem.
But last week, I stood in a secondary school where students couldn’t concentrate because of heat inside the classroom.
No trees. No ventilation. No shade.
This is climate change.

Not in 2050. Not in reports.
Right now. In our schools.
And here’s the problem:
We are still teaching climate change like it’s theory.
Students memorize definitions.
But they don’t understand what is happening around them.

At EcoCITIZENS, we flipped the model.
We take students outside.
We walk the school compound.
We ask simple questions:
Why is this drain blocked?
Why is this area always flooded?
Who is responsible?
That is when everything changes.
Because awareness is not enough.
Understanding systems is what creates change.

In 2023, an estimated 260 000 women died from maternal causes globally.

Today, TruORGANIC Initiative participated in the Budeshi Capacity Building Training on “Understanding the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act,” organised by the Public & Private Development Centre (PPDC) and led by Ojo, Executive Director of Media Rights Agenda, Lagos, Nigeria.

As Executive Director of TruORGANIC Initiative, I see the FOI Act as a vital instrument for our work in promoting transparency, tracking public projects and empowering citizens to demand accountability from duty bearers. The training provided a clearer understanding of our rights under the law, how to make effective FOI requests, and how to respond when access is denied or delayed.

I am deeply grateful to Mr. Edetaen Ojo for his detailed explanations, real life case studies and practical guidance on using the FOI Act as a tool for advocacy, investigative work and public interest journalism. His experience in media rights and freedom of information advocacy enriched the entire session.

Our appreciation also goes to PPDC and the Budeshi team for creating this learning space for civil society organisations and media actors across Nigeria. We look forward to applying the knowledge gained to strengthen our procurement monitoring, community engagement and governance accountability initiatives, as well as to future collaboration and peer learning.

Today, I’m proud to join the Internet Society Nigeria Chapter in commemorating Safer Internet Day 2026 across all 36 States and the FCT.

This year’s theme, “Smart Tech, Safe Choices – Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of AI,” speaks directly to the work many of us do at the intersection of technology, policy, and community impact. As a Fellow of the Nigeria School of Internet Governance, I see every day how powerful the internet and AI can be for learning, innovation, civic engagement, and development—but only when people can use them safely and confidently.

Safer Internet Day reminds us that online safety is not a one-day campaign; it is a daily culture. It’s choosing strong and unique passwords, turning on two-factor authentication, pausing before clicking suspicious links, and teaching young people that their digital footprints matter. It’s also asking hard questions about how AI systems are built, how our data is used, and how to make sure no one is left behind in the digital age.

I’m committed to using my voice and work to promote a safer, more trusted, and more inclusive internet—where Nigerians, especially young people, can explore smart tech, make safe choices, and unlock opportunities without fear of abuse or exploitation.
Let’s use today to reflect, learn, and take simple, practical steps to secure our accounts, protect our identities, and support one another online.
