BEING A SPEECH DELIVERED ON THE 1st Day of December 2023
By Prof. M. A. AYENI PhD
FCNA, FAIA, FCTI, FCCrFA, FCFI, ACPFA,FFAR, CPA Ireland, MNIM

PROTOCOL:
It is my pleasure to welcome you all to this very auspicious occasion, crystallising the end of the last training for 2023.
Today is a great day in the annals of the Institute (CIFCFIN) because, in spite of the hiccups in the economy of our great Country, Nigeria, we still recorded a massive turnout for this training, which indicated the importance of forensic accounting and forensic related activities and the way our people are ready to change the narratives of how things are done in Nigeria. Forensic way of analysing financial transactions is the only way out of the economic quagmire currently bedevilling and waging a fierce war against our collective economic wellness.
Please permit me to rekindle and reiterate my opinion and belief that if we want to fight corruption to a standstill in Nigeria and set the pace for other countries to follow, we must be ready to hold the Bull by its horns by creating a HALL of SHAME at the National Assembly and in all the States houses of assemblies across the Federation where the names of corrupt officers that have been found guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction will be boldly engraved as it is conversely done for those with honour and dignity in the HALL of FAME. We would have by then taken the Bull by its horn regardless of whose Ox is gored. This, I believe, will go a long way to stem the tide of the inordinate craving for unnecessary wealth in our society, as no same person would wish to have their name ignobly engraved in this ignoble HALL of SHAME as against a hall of honour that we all crave for in live as a show of the excellent legacy to leave behind for the generation yet unborn.
The second strategy is to establish forensic accounting Departments in all ministries and MDAs across the Federation where financial transactions will be made to pass through the sleuth eye of forensic experts before the application of the relevant funds with an unfettered right to report directly to the Board or any other higher authority up the rung of the ladder rather than being subservient officers to those charged with governance in their respective Ministries or Departments so that we can clip the wings of the corrupt monsters in our society that have robbed us so much that we suddenly became the global capital of fraud and corruption.
The present lack of this independence has made the internal audit a toothless bulldog that backs without the teeth to bite and a gatekeeper without the key to lock the gate at night to prevent intruders from unauthorised incursion.
To further strengthen the capability of the men and women who will work in these forensic departments, laboratories should be established to enable them to perform in-depth document examination to describe, diagnose, and prescribe potent panacea for the myriad covetousness of our leaders that has plunged us into the abyss of economic perdition.
Corruption is a symbol of decadence, and we in the Institute are ready and willing to help make it vulnerable to defeat in our stride to attain economic stability. We can recalibrate the control mechanism through the In-House Forensic Accounting departments in the Ministries and all Blue-Chip Companies, including the PIE entities nationwide.
We are graduating 196 thoroughbred Forensic accountants who are willing to help Nigeria attain a scam-free society that we can be proud of in consonance with the hallmark of the Institute to which they now belong whose core value is hinged on Integrity, Trust, Excellent service, Professionalism and due process of doing things to achieve seamless perfection.
In conclusion, I want to call on the government to engage the services of the Nigerian forensic experts, and by the grace of God, we would make Nigeria proud.
Thank you for listening, and God bless.

• I consider a display of affluence on the alter a great disservice to God and humanity in the sense that people at the other side of the hall are looking and comparing their outlook with those of them on the altar and sometimes make them query God as if they were not created in the same image. The church is not a house of fashion and should not be made so by those teaching the words.
It is a means of tempting the heart desire of the congregants (worshippers) especially when it is displayed as if dressing well is synonymous with the narrow way to the kingdom.
Men of God should mind the way they display wealth on the alter and eschew the temptation of making the congregation miss their focus while watching them and their attire as role models to make them rebellious to God their creator as if He did not mean well for them. Wearing expensive apparel on the alter is never a sign of nobility. Simplicity is the base point and not a display of affluence to people while on the alter. I consider it to be analogically and not different from selling and buying in the temple for which the marketers were chastised and flogged by Jesus.
If your duty makes it compulsory for you to always feature on the altar of the Almighty God, you should be wary of your appearance and be moderate except if you have come to impress and not to serve and praise God and remember "that wearing unbranded and cheap but clean cloth does not mean that you are poor, you have your family to feed and not a community to impress" (Emma Watson)
Pastor J K Omoniyi is a good role model as far as this humble behaviour is concerned and worthy of emulation for those of us working together with him.

THE NEW ORDER
The world has come to a point of no return at which stage we the inhabitants have nothing else to do than to keep to directions and instructions of our manufacturer the God Almighty.
Who would have fathom out a thought that for a whole year the entire globe will become topsy tophy to the extent that hitherto unknown way of life will become the new normal, this shows the greatness of the unchangeable changer; our manufacture.
Men and women of this generation, is it not apt for us now to acknowledge Him and begin to keep His commandments so that we can escape His wrath?
God is great and He has said it succinctly that He would not share His glory with anyone ; therefore, whatever we are doing now that can constitute a clog on our way to eternity,I appeal to us all to eschew them so that we can be worthy of His heavenly glory;whether we like it or not, a day will come when each one of us will close our eyes and never to open it again to see the phoney clamour of this sinful world.
How are we preparing for this obvious day, heaven is real whether we like it or not;it is a bitter truth.
Though people may still be planning and contemplating of building a castle upon the air,yes it is posible because we are now in the world of possibility but alas ! after that, what next? the recent imbroglio of US election result and the eventual aftermath should be a lesson to us all that no one can ordain what the Almighty says no to.We should worry less about what is not within our whims and caprices to hoist.
Let us examine ourselves and be ready for a positive change for the good of man kind.Think less of evil agaist your fellow human being and lets be ready to pull up and not pull down. God bless.
This is the first series of this new thought and focus of mine

Fellow African compatriots, we have succumbed to the whims and caprices of our colonial masters who derogated and disparaged our character without at least a subtle resistance long enough. They have consistently refused to see anything good in us except the skin of inferiority; our black skin.
Africa is very beautiful, resourceful and indeed it is the Continent that is sustaining the economic wellbeing of the other Continents. But because they do not want us to look for succour within our domain and tap our innate natural resources to our benefit, they will continue to adopt myriad tactics to divert our attention from the path of self-sustainability and be fighting ourselves for no just cause.
I was in Sierra Leone recently and behold, despite the fact that they fourth a war that almost cripples the country some years back, the velocity of their recovery is astonishing.
I transverse through the nooks and crannies of Free Town and I saw the buildings on the hills and the mountainous terrain, they were all marvellous to catch a glimpse of. The city is very neat, you hardly find any refuse on the street; talk less of a heap of disused items. Sanni Abacha Street in Sierra Leone is the counterpart of Balogun and Ereko streets in Lagos Nigeria, but in contrast, you cannot find a drop of waste materials on the road despite the busy nature of the environment as a result of human and vehicular movements. In fact, vehicles stay several minutes on a sport before being able to move an inch due to business activities yet at the recession of the hustling and bustling, you will not find a heap of disused items.
I was curious to know how they manage to keep the city clean so well after each day's activities, and I was told that no matter how small or big the space one uses for his or her business activities, he or she is expected to clean such a space after the business of the day in spite of the fact that there are trucks that usually move around to carte away refuse and disused items. The crannies and corner areas are not left out of the neatness.
Honestly, just like what I noticed and said about The Gambia, the incidence of cheat and avarice or robbery are not very common; one can move around in the wee hours of the day without molestation or harassment from anybody; in fact, the operators of kiosks around the beachside don’t close until 1.00 am yet they will still go to their respective homes harmlessly without the phobia of molestation.
I was told a story of a man who was carrying a huge amount of money to the bank one day in a sack that we usually referred to as “GHANA MUST GO” in Nigeria unfortunately for him the bag fell and turn and the money scattered on the floor. The people around the area rallied around him, pack the money which was said to be Le 50,000,000. (Fifty Million Leone) while one of the passers-by volunteered to accompany him to the bank that day. Can such a thing happen in New York City without a sad story to tell? Yet the white man wants us to believe that nothing worth emulating can come from Africa. Time is now that we Africans must start to believe in ourselves and earn back our self-respect.
This tale was a fall out of the phobia I expressed when I went to Siaka Steven Street to buy some things and I became afraid because of the humongous human traffic, I was compelled to ask if someone could not be robbed in that sort of seemingly confusing environment but I was assured that no such thing could happen because people will assist to chase the suspect and that he would not find any sanctuary to hide in.
Africa wake up! The continent is very beautiful and replete with resourceful people; most of the technological advancements and breakthroughs around the world have the contributions of an African. If Africans decide in unison today to return home, Europe, America, Asia and other continents will collapse and crumble.
A ride on the sea coach from Lungi Airport to Aberdeen in Free Town will intrigue and convince you that Africa is the continent to be.
Lest I forget, I witnessed an incidence that fascinated me this week when the President of Sierra Leone was passing through Siaka Steven Street a very busy and crowded area of the town, I noticed that he did not roll up the glass of his vehicle which afforded him the opportunity to see, acknowledge and assess the countenance of his people as passed by. That is the confidence of a transformational leader who is ready to associate with his subjects and not a transactional leader that has problems home and abroad.
The latest antics of perceived derogatory tactic is the recent episode of S*X FOR MARKS against Nigeria and Ghana Institutions as if worst things do not happen in Europe or America. Yes, it is morally wrong but should that be turned to an international piece of sing-song news on CNN? If care and caution are not applied, a subtle campaign of calumny will soon emanate against our certificates.
Africa, please wake up from your slumber and take your pride of place turn the tide against those who want us to be subjective, subservient and be perpetually derogated as “cesspool”
God bless Africa,
God bless my great country Nigeria.
