Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.

Immanuel
What a miracle that the God of the universe chose to come to earth as a baby—such grandeur and humility all in one. It can be easy to question how this could be, and that’s exactly what Mary did when the angel Gabriel greeted her with the news that she would conceive the Son of God.

Gabriel responded in Luke 1:35 NIV, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy child shall be called the Son of God.”

Over 600 years before this miraculous exchange, the prophet Isaiah spoke the same news of the virgin birth, declaring that the son would be called Immanuel, which translated means, “God with us.” With that, Isaiah told us the who and what of Jesus’ birth, but it was Gabriel who brought the news of how: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you…and for that reason the holy child shall be called the Son of God.”

As we consider the miracle that is “God with us” by the power of the Holy Spirit that came upon Mary, remember to rejoice that, through Jesus, the Holy Spirit is still available to us today. When Jesus prepared His disciples for His departure from the world, He told them that it was actually good that He would leave, that they would then receive the gift and power of the Holy Spirit. You see, on earth, Jesus was fully God and fully man—He could only be in one place at a time. But through the power of the Holy Spirit, each of us has access to Him all the time, wherever we are!

The Holy Spirit who conceived Jesus in Mary’s womb, making it possible for Him to be with us on earth, is the same Spirit that Jesus said would come in His place to be with us always. When God sent His Son through the power of the Holy Spirit, He created and confirmed a lasting presence for those who call Him Lord.

This Christmas, allow the power of the gifts God set in motion long ago to resonate in your heart. Whether you’re celebrating over gifts and dinner with loved ones or if you find yourself in a place of mourning, know that Immanuel has come for you. He didn’t just come to occupy a manger, a cross, or a tomb—He came to live in your heart through the everlasting power of His Holy Spirit. The gift of Christmas was always meant for you, and He is with you always!

Prayer: Father, thank You for sending Your Son to earth and giving me such a gift to celebrate during the Christmas season. It’s humbling to know that You love me so much and that You want to be with me always. Holy Spirit, help me to remember that no matter where I am, You are with me.

Change your priorities. Focus on that which matters. Not on other people's lives, their drama, problems & behaviour. That’s not your business. You need to fix what needs fixing in your life. Don’t be distracted. Don’t compare your life to others. Circumstances are never the same!Clear your doubts quickly. Else, it will fester and eat into your heart and mind. You’ll find yourself deeper in doubt. It’s not healthy because it can start chipping away your faith. Remember, none of us made it this far in our lives by ourselves. The Almighty God protected us!Stop beating yourself when things happen. Focus more on the positives. You have to stop comparing yourself to others. Be kind to yourself. We all make mistakes. Consider them as learning opportunities. Above all, be patient with yoursel. It’s a quality endeared by the Almighty God.

SPIRITUAL WARFARE
---
Many believers ask why we must fight when Christ has already won the victory. Christ has already won the victory but we have to enforce this victory and superimpose it over the enemy.
--
Many times, when God spoke to Israel about their possessions and inheritance, He says he has given it to them but then commands them to possess it. “Rise up, take your journey . . . behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, King of Hesbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.” (Deuteronomy 2:24)
--
God states clearly that He has given the Land to the children of Israel but He adds that they must contend with the current occupants of the land in order possess it. We must go into spiritual warfare knowing that we are already victorious and the outcome shall not disfavour us. If we had to fight the battle all by ourselves, we could never do it. Jesus has already won the battle for us. We are victorious, it's time to claim our prize.
--
Jesus has obtained all authority in heaven and on the earth and the only way the world can fully understand and appreciate this is for us to exercise His authority as we are commanded to. “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Matthew 28:18-20).
--
The word “authority” is translated from a Greek word which means the right to use power. It also means the right to have one’s words and commands obeyed.
The policeman is empowered by the government to enforce the law and to deal with lawbreakers. He has the power to arrest and detain those who disobey the law. When a judge declares someone guilty and passes out a sentence, it is the duty of the law enforcement agent to see to it that this sentence is executed.
--
This is exactly how the believer stands in Christ. The believer has the power of attorney to use the name of Jesus to bring the devices of the enemy to a halt. This example of the policeman illustrates that the extent to which you utilize your God-given authority will determine how far the enemy can advance in your life.
The Scripture says, “Behold I give you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19).
--
Friend, you and I have been authorized by heaven as God’s ambassadors to carry out and enforce the laws of Jehovah. We have the backing of the powers of heaven in this assignment. Just as the policeman is fully backed by the government of his nation, the believer has heavenly backing. The scriptures say, “Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds. Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-.edged sword in their hand; To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people; To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the Lord.” (Psalm 149:5-9).
--
Just as it is dangerous to defy the laws of the state, so is it dangerous for the enemy to defy the commands of the believer. Whenever the policeman takes off his uniform and cap, which are symbols of his authority and by which he is recognized and respected, he loses the authority. The believers who rebel against the laws of the kingdom of God lose their right and mandate to exercise authority over the devil (2 Cor. 10:3-6). Blessings!

Moving Beyond Where I Am Stuck

This day’s reading:
Galatians 1:6-10
1 John 2:17
Matthew 11:28-30
Luke 18:17

Devotional
DAY FOUR: Break out of the mold.

Without realizing it, we can slip into a habit of people-pleasing that crosses the line from simply wanting to be helpful to sacrificing who we are and our own freedom in order to win their approval. What starts with a small favor we do for a friend can turn into us reshaping our lives around what they think is best and, in the process, we lose our ability to be honest and vulnerable for fear of their rejection. We end up molding ourselves into what we think they consider to be good or worthy and we lose sight of the truth that God calls us good and worthy for no other reason than Jesus made it so when He died on the cross and rose again.

The truth is, as Galatians 1:6-10 clearly outlines for us, when we submit to the approval of other people, we are actually submitting to what they call good instead of what God calls good. The two are not the same and you cannot work to please people and God at the same time. When we’re living to please God, that’s when we tap into a lasting hope and eternal life. Anything else will fall short.

The good news about God is that He not only takes away the mold, but He also offers a yoke that is easy and a burden that is light. He takes all complications out and even compares it to operating from faith like a child. Not only is this freeing for us, but in turn, we also set the people around us free from having to live up to whatever mold they try to fit in to please us. When we point it all back to Jesus, that’s when we realign our path to His' and go even further beyond.

Is there someone whose expectations you are trying to live up to instead of living for what is pleasing to God? What have you started to value that won’t last forever?
