Some relationships are way sweeter than wine, some people are much nicer than plantain, and some friends are truly closer than a brother… my friend and partner embodies these things and much more!

I have so many reasons to celebrate you, but perhaps the biggest reason I have is WHO YOU ARE. You make the journey of friendship meaningful, you make yoke of partnership easy, and you make burdens of life light.

I bless the day God conceived you and celebrate the day earth received you. I wish you many big things and pray that you will enjoy the fullness of the visions, ideas, enterprises, and relationships that God has blessed you with; and in addition, I wish you many more beautiful years in sound health.

Happy Birthday Champ!

In JSS 1, two of my “egbon-adugbo” (Olamide and Lucky) gave me a stapler to keep. After lunch break, I couldn’t find the stapler again… and these two bullies made life hell for me from JSS1 to SS1, threatening and extorting me daily, forcing me to do the unthinkable all in the name of retrieving their “stolen” stapler- and no one knew at home. I wish they did.

THE SHREDDING PAIN OF DEATH:
In SS2, we were struck by the death of one of my classmates, an absolutely intelligent and gentle lady (Ruth). In 2001, I lost another classmates who happened to be one of the biggest fans I ever had (Abayomi). Years after, I lost one of my friends/ brother (an intelligent IT genius & a resilient sickle-celler) - Bro Seun. I still remember and miss these people.

Fast forward to a day after my last paper in in 2006, I received the sad news of my dad’s death. The day we had planned to groove became a day to mourn. Sometimes in church, I would cry while playing the bass guitar during worship sessions at RCCG House of David (Ogudu), not necessarily because of the anointing, but because of my dad. Two years after, I was at a praise concert at The Lighted Church (Oregun) with when I was told that one of my younger sisters had suddenly died too. Again in 2016/2017, we lost the one next to her. Tough times almost killed tough man!

Oh about Yabatech, the loss of my dad took a deep toll on me that I couldn’t go back to write a course (by Pa Odunsi) I had surprisingly failed - and that’s was how I became a dropout from YCT! I know this will shock

Few years after, I lost two of the best friends I ever had (Solomon and Eky’D). I met Solomon in Yabatech and Eky’D at TPH. These two were closer than any family member - and I don’t think I can ever stop missing them. Thank you guys for being a part of my journey.

On a lighter note, I’ve been served breakfasts on multiple occasions too - but I thank God say nothing spoil sha. Femi, off your mic!!! 😂

The beauty of my life’s story is not largely in “how far I have come”, it is more about WHERE I CAME FROM. My ORIGIN story, is what makes my EMERGENCE story more meaningful.

I was born in Idi-oro, somewhere around Cement Bus-stop, and when I turned 1, we moved to Alapere, Ketu. From taking baby steps to dealing with the freakiness of teenage years, and to the point where I was ready to leave and cleave - everything happened in Alapere. Over 30 years of my life was spent in that neighborhood, and I’m forever grateful for how much that beautiful community impacted on me.

Even though I had to eventually leave the neighborhood when I was getting married, I couldn’t leave some of its impact and memories behind. It was in that neighborhood I found CHRIST, it was there I learnt MUSIC, it was there I did my apprenticeship on STREET THEORY, it was there I took my foundational class on the in-house GAME OF POLITICS, it was there I had my first taste of STARDOM, and it was there I had my first encounter with ADDICTION (not drugs ooo) and many other interesting things I’ll share when the time comes.

Now, this post isn’t about where i was born or grew up- it is about me looking backwards through the lens of my elementary years to truly appreciate how far God has brought me.

Dear Lord, I’m grateful for every breath, for every single dawning of the day, for every shred of opportunity, for every ounce of blessing, and for everything I have ever achieved and become. I am extremely grateful and thankful for a new year 🙏
