Today, as we celebrate Democracy Day, we honour the resilience, strength, and unity of the Nigerian people. Democracy remains a symbol of our collective hope, freedom, and determination to build a nation where every citizen can thrive regardless of background, ethnicity, or religion.

While we celebrate the progress made over the years, we must also reflect on the challenges that continue to threaten our peace and security. The rising cases of kidnapping, banditry, and insecurity across various parts of the country call for renewed commitment and stronger action. Our military and security agencies deserve greater support, modern equipment, intelligence resources, and strategic collaboration to effectively combat these threats and restore confidence among citizens.

As a nation, we cannot truly celebrate while many families continue to live in fear and uncertainty. On this Democracy Day, we also raise our voices and renew our call: Bring Back Our Children. Every child deserves safety, education, and the opportunity to pursue their dreams without fear.

May this Democracy Day inspire stronger leadership, greater national unity, enhanced security, and a brighter future for all Nigerians.

“Client Service & Operations Manager needed.”

That was the role. Then I kept reading…
“Minimum of 7 years experience required.”

And honestly, I had to pause for a second.

Because at this point, some job descriptions are starting to sound disconnected from reality.

Seven years?
For a role many companies still describe as “mid-level” or “young talent preferred”?

Sometimes you see requirements like:

Must be below 30
Must have 7–10 years experience
Must understand strategy, operations, client retention, reporting, business growth, digital tools, and leadership
Must work under pressure
Must be willing to accept an “entry-level” salary

And you start wondering…
When exactly are people supposed to grow?

What happened to mentorship?
What happened to internal training?
What happened to hiring smart people and helping them become great?

Because if every company wants someone who already knows everything… who is creating the next generation of experienced professionals?

A lot of young professionals are genuinely trying.

They’re learning.
Taking courses.
Managing internships.
Handling freelance projects.
Building skills with little or no support.

Only to open a job post for a Client Service & Operations Manager role and discover the company wants someone with 7 years experience, multiple certifications, leadership background, and the ability to practically run the business alone.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting competent people.

But there should also be room for growth.

Because experience doesn’t magically appear.
Someone, somewhere, has to give people the opportunity to build it.

And sometimes, the best professionals are not the ones who already know everything…
They’re the ones willing to learn, adapt, and grow with the company.
