ARREST & EXTRADITION OF HUSHPUPPIE : ANY LESSONS?
By G. Chijioke Odom, Pstr
Below are the photographs of Abbas Igbalode Ramoni, (famously known as Hushpuppie, worldwide), the Nigerian internet fraudster reputed to hv pulled off the biggest 419 in world history. He was arrested last week in a sting operation by the Dubai police in collaboration with the Interpol & FBI. The Dubai police had monitored his every move for the past 4 months whlie he had evaded Interpol for 6 years. Him & his assistant in crime whose nickname is Woodberry, were yesterday, July 2, extradited to the US to face charges.
Interpol, FBI & Dubai police files on him say he reportedly duped a total of 1 million & nine hundred & twenty-seven thousand & four hundred & tweny-eight ( 1, 927,428) people across all countires of the world. That is nearly 2 million persons, minus banks, companies, organisations, etc.
On his arrest last week, a total of N16bn cash was revovered from his Dubai residence, including 13 luxury cars worth over N 3.7 billion, 21 laptops, 47 smart phones, 15 flash drives, 5 hard drives containing over 200,000 files & host of other items. The estimated total receipt of the scam he executed is put conservatively at N168 billion given the evidences police were able to track through banks alone.
The Dubai police in UAE belive he has moved more than $430 in the last 3 years & was extremely active in this COVID-19 pandemic season.
In the US, I am most certain that he would be tried under what they call the RICO laws which they use to prosecute Mafia dons. The least in that sentence, if convicted is life imprisonment. The maximum is ex*****on in the gas chamber by lethal injection. His fourteen other colleagues were also arrested in the Dubai raid.
This morning, his extradition to the US has resulted in a diplomatic war btw the United Arab Emirates, US, UK, & the European Union countries all of which wanted him to come & face trials in their respective countries. But, the reality is that the US & UK hv a criminal extradition treaty with the UAE.
My final take:
(1) Hushpuppie was wanted for internet & banking & drugs fraud, etc, all over the world, but not in Nigeria. Never was he wanted in Nigeria! Neither the EFCC, NDLEA, nor the Special Frauds Unit of the Nigeria Police ever declared him wanted till date. A few days ago, the EFCC said categorically that he was never wanted by any law enforcement agencies in the country. Does that tell you something of the country we live in?
(2) What blew the lead on him was the scam he executed on an old woman, an aged widow in Pennsylvania, USA. I suspect that grandma may have cursed him, & God sent angels to activate her curse.
(3) Hushpuppie is so popular as a socialite & celebrity in Nigeria & especially in Lagos. Many serving senators have taken selfies with him & have severally posted them on the social media over time. They were excited to be associated with him & his ill-gotten wealth. Take it from me: If not for his current arrest, do not overrule the fact that he may hv ran for a National Assembly seat or state governorship office by 2023! Many of our leaders have same antecedents as him, & even Nigerians know.
(4) He made several videos of himself boasting with his ill-gotten wealth. In one of the videos, he was seen indicting Nigerians who dared to query the source of his wealth, derisively asking them if there is anyone in the country, no matter how highly placed who could pay his/her driver N700,000 per month as he( Hushpuppie) does for his own driver. With all these obscenities, he remained not a sinner, but a saint in Nigeria.
If you claim to be a Christian & you are not praying for this country, you are provoking God to to tears. I rest my case. Your reactions are welcome.
