Yesterday, I promised to discuss the difference between "Earning money" and "Making money". So, here we go...
Earning money is trading your time and energy for money.
While…
Making money is using your time and energy for money.
Sounds similar right?..... Yes it does sounds similar, and that’s where it gets interesting.
Earning money involves "selling" your time and energy for money. The most typical illustration for this is paid employment. When someone is employed, the person is literally selling his time and energy to his employer. The employer pays him for his time and energy, and since the employer has paid, he literally has the 'right' to use that time and energy in any way he likes.
Making money involves USING your time and energy for money. The most typical example of this is self employment. Here someone uses his time and energy to do whatever he likes in order to get money.
When one is earning money, he is giving his time and energy to someone else to use for him, then at the end of the day (week, month, year) the person pays him for that time or energy used. But when making money, a person uses his time creatively to do what he wants to do, and then gets rewarded for it.
Personally, I love making money. There is this sense of fulfillment and accomplishment that comes with making money; The freedom to use my time for what I want and how I want. The feeling that I am doing something for myself and not for someone else.
Please don’t think I have something against earning money (working for someone else). There a lot of people out there living large from the money they earn monthly. Earning money is not a bad thing. The choice depends on a lot of factors (which we'll leave for another time). But if you are like me who loves the feeling of doing something for himself not always for someone else, then you should be thinking of making money not just earning it.
So, that is the difference between earning money and making money. Let us know your own views and opinion by dropping a Comment below.
Cheers and have a nice day.
