‎A person falling overboard is one of the most time-critical emergencies at sea. Seconds matter.
‎
‎𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗧 “𝗠𝗔𝗡 𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗕𝗢𝗔𝗥𝗗!” 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆.

‎A bitt is a strong vertical post or pair of posts fitted on a vessel’s deck. Its practical job is to provide a secure point for making fast and controlling mooring lines.

‎𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗜𝗦 𝗔 𝗕𝗜𝗧𝗧 𝗨𝗦𝗘𝗗?

‎During mooring operations, a mooring line is led to the bitt and secured around it. The bitt must be strong enough to withstand the loads generated by the vessel, especially when there is wind, current, swell or vessel movement.

𝗘𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘃𝗶𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆-𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗠𝗥 𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹

Eidesvik Offshore and Reach Subsea have signed a memorandum of understanding to sell the jointly owned IMR vessel Viking Reach to an unnamed client.

Eidesvik Reach, the joint venture that owns the 2009-built vessel, is 49.9% owned by Reach Subsea. The rest is owned by Eidesvik Offshore.

The transaction is expected to be completed in the early fourth quarter of 2026, subject to customary conditions. Expected gain from the sale is approximately NOK 80m ($8.4m).

As part of the transaction, Reach will also sell the work-class ROV onboard the Viking Reach. Reach expects to recognise an accounting gain of approximately NOK 30m ($3.15m) related to the WROV sale upon completion of the transaction.

𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗯𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝘅 𝗟𝗡𝗚-𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗯𝗼𝘅𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀

State-owned Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has launched a global tender for up to six 8,000 teu containerships in a programme worth an estimated $720m as New Delhi steps up efforts to rebuild a national liner fleet.

The tender covers two firm vessels and options for a further four, with bids due by August 31 and opening scheduled for September 1. The contract may ultimately be awarded to SCI, a joint venture or a special-purpose vehicle, allowing the ships to become part of the planned Bharat Container Shipping Line.
