Happy New Month, and Happy 66th Independence Day to Nigeria!

As we celebrate our nation’s journey, we are reminded that the future of every nation is shaped by the knowledge, values, vision and opportunities we create for the next generation.

At Inside Edge Consulting, we believe education is more than earning a qualification. It is about equipping people to think critically, make informed decisions, explore opportunities and contribute meaningfully to the world around them.

As we step into October, may we continue to build a future where access to quality education, global opportunities and purposeful learning helps more people become all they are capable of becoming.

Here’s to a Nigeria filled with hope, progress and possibilities.

Happy Independence Day, Nigeria! 💚🤍💚

The interview is important.

It shouldn’t be the only checkpoint.

For schools recruiting teachers, a stronger process looks beyond how well someone performs in an interview and asks whether the candidate is genuinely suited to the role.

That can mean reviewing qualifications, experience, references, relevant background checks, curriculum fit, classroom approach and the expectations of the school.

The exact process will vary by school and role, but the principle is simple:
Don’t just assess whether someone can get through the interview. Assess whether they are the right person for the job.

School leaders and HR teams: what is one thing you always check before hiring a teacher?

Studying abroad is more than watching a “How I got my admission” video or following someone else’s scholarship journey.

What worked for one student may not necessarily work for you.

From choosing the right university and understanding admission requirements to exploring scholarships, funding options, and preparing your application, every student’s journey is different.

And while social media can be a great starting point for information, your education decisions deserve more than random opinions and general advice online.

You need accurate information, proper guidance, and a pathway that aligns with your academic goals and circumstances.

At Inside Edge, we believe your study abroad journey should begin with clarity, not confusion.

Because your future deserves more than guesswork.

Are you thinking about studying abroad? Let’s help you approach the process with the right information.

If funding is an important part of your study-abroad plan, don’t wait until after you’ve chosen a university to start asking funding questions.

Scholarship and funding opportunities can have their own eligibility criteria, timelines and application requirements.

That means funding research belongs inside the education planning process, not as an afterthought.

And one important reminder: scholarship information changes. Always check the current requirements, eligibility and deadline directly with the relevant provider before making a decision.

The earlier you understand what you’re looking for, the more deliberately you can plan.

Would funding opportunities influence your university choice? Tell us why.

This is one of those education conversations where there probably isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer.

Parents bring experience, perspective and often a practical understanding of what different choices may mean.

Students bring something equally important: their own interests, strengths, ambitions and willingness to commit to the path.

So where should the balance sit?
Should parents make the final decision?
Should students have complete freedom?
Or should the decision be made together?

Let’s hear your perspective — especially if you’ve been on either side of this conversation.

Who should have the final say, and why?

Choosing a university course is a big decision.

But sometimes the conversation starts and ends with the course title:
“I want to study Law.”
“I want to study Computer Science.”
“I want to study Psychology.”

There is nothing wrong with having a preferred course.
But before making the final decision, it helps to look one step further.

What skills will the student develop?
What kinds of roles or industries connect to the field?
Does the course fit the student’s strengths and interests?
What other pathways could it open?

This isn’t about predicting exactly where a 17- or 18-year-old will be years from now.

It is about making a more informed choice today.

Hiring a teacher is not simply about finding someone who can teach.

For schools, the bigger question is whether the candidate is right for this role, this classroom and this institution.

That means looking at qualifications and experience, but also curriculum fit, classroom approach, expectations and institutional culture.

The hiring process becomes stronger when schools define what “right fit” actually means before they start reviewing CVs.

At Inside Edge, our teacher recruitment work supports schools through recruitment, candidate access, pre-screening and vetting — with the aim of making the process more structured and relevant to each school’s needs.

A university can look impressive on paper and still not be the right fit for a particular student.
That is why choosing a university should involve more than checking a ranking table.
The better question is not simply, “How highly is this university ranked?”
It is:
“How well does this university fit the student, their goals and their circumstances?”

Course fit matters.
Affordability matters.
Location matters.
Student support matters.
And what the student hopes to do after university matters too.

Rankings can be useful as part of the research process. They just shouldn’t make the decision for you.
If you’re comparing universities right now, save this as a reminder to look at the whole picture, not just one number.

What matters most when choosing a university — ranking, cost, location, course or career outcomes? Tell us your pick in the comments.
