Can we talk about Discipline in children.

when we mention discipline most Africans parents always think about the cane. The cane has its role as a parent but not always.

Discipline is the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behaviour, using punishment to correct disobedience.

As much as we want children to be children there must be taught to follow rules because that is how society works.

As a parent one of the ways to enforce discipline is to be a good example of what you are trying to teach. If you want your children to clean their room let them see you cleaning, if you want them to study let them see you study, if you want them to be well mannered let them see you treat people right. Whatever you demand of your kids let them see you doing it because children learn first and foremost by observation.
Secondly, you must agree on what they must do and you must ensure to fulfill a promise whenever they do what you both have agreed on and if they do theirs ensure you fulfill your part. Don't promise your child what you know you can't do. And if they don't keep their end of the agreement call them out on it and let them see the dangers of not keeping their end of an agreement.

This is the ABC of sound parenting and discipline.

If you love children like I do you will understand that every child is intrinsically different. The fact that the child can't solve mathematics at the age of 14 doesn't mean that child will be a failure.

What you should look out for in your children is how they relate with themselves and with others, how they question and analyse themselves and their surroundings, things that they are passionate about, what motivates them to act, what are their strength, and what are their fears.

You should be able to sit with your child especially if they are above 5years old and have these deep conversations. What you will discover about your kids will Interest you.

The West African Examinations council has released it's performance assessment by states for the year 2021 and Enugu state is number one in it's ranking while Zamfara state came last in the ranking.

A thing to note is that the Southwest states such as Ogun, Kwara, Oyo, Osun make up the last 10 states. It is a thing of worry that the Southwest of Nigeria known for its high academic standards is dropping further down the yearly ranking.

We use this medium to call on the South West Governor's and Educational stakeholders to look into this and make improvements while urging the rest of the states who are doing well to maintain the high standards they have set.

One of the things parents must do in this age and time is to listen more to their children because there are always talking.

As TUTORS, we interact with this children everyday and we have observed that majority of them are dying in silence and there have so much they want to tell their parents and none of them is paying attention.

Pay attention to your kids friends, role models, who they talk to often, who they spend most of their time with. it's important you know these things.

I know you are busy and you have to make money to look after them. But please never outsource parenting.
