STATEHOUSE STATEMENT
PRESIDENT TINUBU DECLARES A SECURITY EMERGENCY, ORDERS ARMY, POLICE TO RECRUIT MORE PERSONNEL
Today, in view of the emerging security situation, I have decided to declare a nationwide security emergency and order additional recruitment into the Armed Forces.
By this declaration, the police and the army are authorised to recruit more personnel. The police will recruit an additional 20,000 officers, bringing the total to 50,000.
Although I had previously approved the nationwide upgrade of police training facilities, the police authorities are, by this statement, authorised to use various National Youth Service Corps camps as training depots.
The officers being withdrawn from VIP guard duties should undergo crash training to debrief them and deliver more efficient police services when deployed to security-challenged areas of the country.
The DSS also has my authority to immediately deploy all the forest guards already trained to flush out the terrorists and bandits lurking in our forests. The agency also has my directive to recruit more men to man the forests. There will be no more hiding places for agents of evil.
My fellow Nigerians, this is a national emergency, and we are responding by deploying more boots on the ground, especially in security-challenged areas. The times require all hands on deck. As Nigerians, we should all get involved in securing our nation.
Let me take this moment to commend our security agencies for working together to secure the release of the 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi and the 38 worshippers in Kwara State. We will continue to sustain the efforts to rescue the remaining students of Catholic School in Niger State and other Nigerians still being held hostage.
To the leadership and rank and file of our Armed Forces, I commend your courage and your sacrifice. This is a challenging moment for our nation and for the military institution itself. I charge you to remain resolute, to restore peace across all theatres of operation, and to uphold the highest standards of discipline and integrity. There must be no compromise, no collusion, and no negligence. The Nigerian people are counting on you, and this administration will provide the support you need to succeed.
In addition, our administration will support state governments which have set up security outfits to safeguard their people from the terrorists bent on disrupting our national peace.
I call on the National Assembly to begin reviewing our laws to allow states that require state police to establish them.
States should rethink establishing boarding schools in remote areas without adequate security. Mosques and churches should constantly seek police and other security protection when they gather for prayers, especially in vulnerable areas.
Our administration created the Livestock Ministry to address the persistent clashes between herders and farmers. I call on all herder associations to take advantage of it, end open grazing and surrender illegal weapons. Ranching is now the path forward for sustainable livestock farming and national harmony. The Federal Government, in collaboration with the states, will work with you to solve this problem, once and for all.
I sympathise with the families who have lost their loved ones in recent attacks on soft targets in Kebbi, Borno, Zamfara, Niger, Yobe, and Kwara States. I also pay tribute to our brave soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice, including Brigadier-General Musa Uba.
Those who want to test our resolve should never mistake our restraint for weakness. This administration has the courage and determination to keep the country safe and ensure our citizens live in peace.
Fellow Compatriots, I urge you not to give in to fear and never succumb to despair. Let's stand together in purpose and strength to defend our freedom and values. Our administration will continue to guarantee peaceful co-existence and preserve our union. I urge all Nigerians to remain calm and vigilant. Report suspicious activities. Cooperate with security agencies. We are in this fight together, and together we shall win.
May God continue to bless Nigeria and keep our armed forces safe.

My fellow Nigerians,

You will recall that I cancelled my trip to the G20 summit in South Africa to enable me coordinate the security efforts at home.

Thanks to the efforts of our security forces over the last few days, all the 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State have been rescued.

I am equally happy that 51 out of the missing students of the Catholic School in Niger State, have been recovered.

I am closely monitoring the security situation nationwide and receiving continuous updates from the frontline.

Let me be clear: I will not relent. Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety — and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people.

No Genocide in Benue state” - Gov Alia

“We do not have any jihad in Nigeria, I’m speaking to you as a reverend father in the church. I’m speaking to you as a governor of a state. If there were any, particularly in my state or any part of Nigeria, I would have been the very number one person to make a noise.”

COAS VISITS BORNO, CHARGES TROOPS TO SUSTAIN VIGILANCE, AGGRESSIVE POSTURE

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) to sustain vigilance, avoid complacency, and maintain aggressive posture in ongoing operations against terrorists in the North East.

General Shaibu gave the charge during an operational assessment visit to Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (JTF NE OPHK) in Maiduguri. The visit was aimed at assessing the security situation, evaluating operational effectiveness, strengthening strategic alignment, and enhancing collaboration with security stakeholders to address prevailing threats in the region.

Addressing personnel, the COAS commended their gallantry and resilience in confronting terrorist elements, urging them to remain steadfast and maintain maximum situational awareness to forestall emerging threats. He emphasised the need for continued operational aggressiveness to deny terrorists freedom of action across the theatre.

General Shaibu also engaged officers of the theatre command, where he stressed the importance of close supervision, effective coordination, robust intelligence gathering, and improved operational posture to sustain ongoing successes under Operation HADIN KAI.

Earlier, the Theatre Commander JTF NE OPHK, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, briefed the COAS on current operational activities, achievements, and challenges within the theatre.

As part of the visit, the Executive Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, paid a courtesy call on the COAS. Governor Zulum congratulated Lieutenant General Shaibu on his appointment as the 25th Chief of Army Staff, describing it as well deserved. He noted that General Shaibu, having held all major operational command appointments in the theatre, had made significant contributions to the drastic reduction of insurgency in the region.

Governor Zulum expressed optimism that the COAS would consolidate ongoing efforts to decimate the remnants of insurgents and restore lasting peace and stability to Borno State and the broader North East. He reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the government and people of Borno State to continued collaboration with the Nigerian Military and other security stakeholders in the overall interest of the state, the region, and the country.

While acknowledging the remarkable progress recorded by OPHK troops, the Governor urged them not to be deterred by isolated security incidents in parts of the state, but to remain focused and resolute.

In his response, the COAS thanked Governor Zulum for the visit and lauded the sustained cooperation between the state government and OPHK. He assured the Governor that the Nigerian Army remains committed to intensifying efforts to restore enduring peace and normalcy to Borno State and the entire North East.

Lieutenant General Shaibu was accompanied on the operational assessment visit by Principal Staff Officers from the Army Headquarters.

“After We Captured the Real Leader of Boko Haram, I Was Retired, Arrested, and Detained” –Major General Danjuma Ali-Keffi Speaks Out...

In a dramatic and deeply revealing letter to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, retired Major General Danjuma Ali-Keffi has shed light on what he describes as a disturbing turn of events following a major breakthrough in Nigeria's fight against terrorism.

According to the senior officer, after successfully leading an elite task force that apprehended key figures within the Boko Haram insurgency-including what he called the “real leader” of the terror group-he was not celebrated, but instead met with retaliation: compulsory retirement, arrest, and 64 days of solitary confinement.

Ali-Keffi, who once commanded the Nigerian Army’s 1 Division and served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC), was handpicked to head “Operation Service Wide,” a presidentially sanctioned counter-terrorism investigative team.

The operation reportedly uncovered not only the masterminds of Boko Haram but also a network of financiers, including senior government officials, military officers, and top financial institutions.

“The moment we arrested some of these individuals and started exposing the financial pipelines of terror, the backlash began,” Ali-Keffi revealed in his correspondence. He contends that powerful interests within and outside the government moved swiftly to suppress the operation and silence those behind it.

Even more shockingly, the General raised concerns about the tragic death of Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, Nigeria’s late Chief of Army Staff, who died in a plane crash in 2021. According to Ali-Keffi, the late COAS was determined to go after terror financiers and had endorsed the work of Operation Service Wide.

The General subtly implied that Attahiru’s death may not have been accidental, urging President Tinubu to revisit the incident and open a transparent investigation into both the crash and the broader sabotage of anti-terror efforts.

The allegations made by General Ali-Keffi, now in the public domain, have ignited calls for accountability. While the federal government has yet to issue an official response, the implications of his testimony are profound. If true, they point to a deeply entrenched system where fighting terrorism is undermined from within, and brave efforts to protect the nation are punished rather than praised.

Ali-Keffi’s whistleblowing has added a new dimension to Nigeria’s complex security challenges. His story raises urgent questions: Who truly benefits from the prolonged war against insurgency? And why are those fighting it from within the system being silenced?

Until these questions are answered with transparency and courage, the nation’s fight against terror may remain compromised—not by lack of will or strategy, but by internal betrayal at the highest levels.

19/11/2025

President Bola Tinubu has received the final list of Nigeria’s new ambassador-designates after months of security screening and internal reviews, top Presidency officials confirmed on Tuesday. The list, cleared by the Department of State Services and other agencies, now awaits the President’s approval before being sent to the Senate.

According to Presidency sources, the appointments will be released in phases, beginning with envoys assigned to Nigeria’s most strategic partners. This staggered approach is meant to manage the high costs associated with deploying ambassadors abroad.

A senior official explained that the expense of settling ambassadors in foreign missions slowed the process. As a result, only nominees heading to key countries including the United States, United Kingdom, major EU states, China, India, and important ECOWAS partners will be announced first.

These nations are central to Nigeria’s diplomatic, economic, and security interests, particularly in areas such as counter-terrorism, oil trade, infrastructure financing, and regional cooperation.

The long-delayed appointments come more than two years after Tinubu recalled all heads of Nigeria’s 109 foreign missions during a major diplomatic overhaul. Since then, many missions have been run by chargés d’affaires with limited authority, weakening Nigeria’s representation in important negotiations.

Diplomatic sources note that foreign governments usually give greater weight to ambassadors than to interim officials, increasing pressure on Nigeria to complete the process.

Officials added that the timing of the appointments is unrelated to recent controversial comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, who threatened military action and a suspension of aid over alleged killings of Christians in Nigeria. The Presidency wants the restructuring to appear deliberate, not reactive to foreign pressure.

Funding challenges have been a major obstacle. In April 2025, it emerged that over $1 billion was needed to clear mission debts, renovate embassies, replace old vehicles, and address operational backlogs. These financial strains, along with political balancing, prolonged the approvals.

Tinubu previously acknowledged the difficulty of selecting nominees, noting the need to balance career diplomats with political appointees.

By early November, the list was fully updated to remove those who had retired, died, taken other jobs, or had less than one year remaining in service.

Officials now say the list is complete, and only the President’s final approval stands between it and Senate screening.
