FUNCTIONS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE BUREAU:
The main objective of the Bureau is to improve the religious affairs in thestate. It is to work in the encouragement of brotherhood, values, religious belief in both Niger State, Nigeria and at the international level. It will also work to contribute in the development of human resource and intellectual capacity of the society. Others are:
• To establish, ma

nage and maintain religious Centers, places of worships, Academies and Institutes.
• To render financial assistance to religious Centers, Academies and Institutes
• To undertake research on the contributions of the core religions of Islam and Christianity to science, culture, politics and civilization.
• To propagate and assist in propagating the basic religious ideals of universal brotherhood, tolerance and justice.
• To organize and promote studies and research in religious history, philosophy, politics, economics, culture, law and jurisprudence.
• To publish books, periodicals and pamphlets on religious history, philosophy, politics, economics, culture, law and jurisprudence.
• To organize conferences, lectures, debates and symposia on matters relating to religious history, philosophy, culture, law and jurisprudence.
• To institute prizes, awards and medals for outstanding contributions in the field of religious studies.
• To award scholarships in the field of religious studies.
• To manage and develop religious economic models which may subsequently come under the management or affiliation of religious economic and financial institutions.
• To undertake other acts or moves ancillary or incidental to any of the aforesaid functions.

A new Bureau Has been created in Niger State. It is called NIGER STATE BUREAU FOR RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS, it replaces the former Ministry for Religious Affairs in the Niger. Also, a new DIRECTOR GENERAL has been appointed for the Bureau, he is MALLAM UMAR FAROOQ ABDULLAHI, the Chief Imam of Bosso Estate Juma'at Mosque and Secretary General of Niger State Juma'at Imams Forum. Mallam Umar has since assumed office and already working vigorously to achieve the aims and objectives of the Bureau. Equally, the appointment of Mallam Umar has been described by many as putting a round peg in a round hole.
