A Lot of People Still Don't Get This❗
I have written about this too many times, and sadly, I still see a lot of people struggling to understand it. If you're one of such people, I want you to read this post carefully and try to understand it.
Anyways, let's go over it again.
First of all, there are different kinds of needles for different sewing machines, and different kinds of needles for different fabrics. You need to have this in your mind.
There is no multipurpose needle that works for every kind of sewing machine. What we have is different needles for different sewing machines and different fabrics.
Now, listen to me:
📌 For a manual sewing machine (black head specifically), there are two types of needles to use - HA and DP needles.
HA needles are for lightweight and stretchy fabrics. And they are available in different sizes - HA 14, HA 16, HA 18...
In most cases, you can use any of the sizes for your lightweight and stretchy fabrics.
DP needles are for other kinds of fabrics - ankara, denim, etc. DP needles are also available in different sizes - DP 14, DP 16, DP 18...DP 21, DP 22.
The size that you will use will depend on the thickness of the fabric you're working with. However, DP 16 and DP 18 works with most fabrics. Extra-thick fabrics are the ones you'll use size 21/22 for.
📌 For industrial straight sewing machines, the needle type you'll use are all DB needles.
DB needles are available in different sizes - DB 14, DB 16, DB 18...DB 21, DB 22. And the size that you will use will depend on the thickness of the fabric you're working with. However, DB 14, DB 16 and DB 18 works with most fabrics. Extra-thick fabrics are the ones you'll use size 21/22 for.
📌 For all overlocking (weaving) machines, the needle type you'll use is DC, whether it is industrial or domestic.
