President Joe Biden called for a return to mask mandates from state and local officials who might have relaxed them in recent weeks, citing a small but alarming uptick in COVID-19 cases across the U.S. States like Texas, Mississippi, Iowa, and others have pulled back their mandates in recent days. Several states, including some of those, have also begun easing restrictions around social activities like indoor dining.
Earlier in the same day, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky warned Americans of the 'impending doom' associated with the new increase in positive cases. At his appearance, Biden announced that 90% of all American adults will be vaccine-eligible by April 19.
