The President, the executive council members and members of Textile Garment and Tailoring Senior Staff Association use this medium to congratulate the Trade Union Congress its sister Union the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Nigerian workers for their doggedness and spirited concerted effort in ensuring that the workers within all sectors enjoy and benefit from the welfare packages of employment that promotes job satisfaction and job security in the midst of various challenging crisis facing the World and Nation at large. It is noteworthy that this year's May Day celebration would be celebrated in a very low key manner across the Nation as the country grapples with the effect of COVID 19 pandemic that has ravaged and crippled most of the economic activities of the world to a standstill, while commemorating with all those who have lost their lives to this pandemic especially the health workers who are in the line of duty endangering their lives to fight this bewildering pandemic called COVID 19.
It is on this note that the TGTSSAN through the TUC raise our voice to say:
1). Outright ban on all imported Fabrics and Textile products as this pandemic as helped us to realise that we also cannot produce and make do with local contents such as the facemask/nosemask being enforced to be used by all and sundry.
2). We say NO to the health crisis and lack of a standardised and well structured health system in the Country.
3). Re-vitalisation of the agricultural sector to promote the growth of Cotton for Industrial usage and textile production.
4). Furthermore the newly implemented minimum wage should be strictly adhered to by the Federal Government, State, public and private sectors before, during and after the COVID 19 pandemic.
5). All workers in the textile industries/factories within the country should be unionised as we say NO to casualisation of Nigerian Workers.
6). The rights and privileges of the Nigerian Workers must be protected from exploitative foreign Nationals.
7). Diversification of the nation's economy from Oil and Gas to other sectors so as to promote employment opportunity for the unemployed.
LONG LIVE NIGERIA!
LONG LIVE TUC!!
LONG LIVE NIGERIAN WORKERS!!!
