In a significant move towards fostering community-driven growth, Hon. Chief Amb. Larry Obinna Chikwe, the Executive Chairman of Ahiazu Mbaise LGA, convened a town hall meeting with key stakeholders yesterday 6th Nov. 2024. The meeting, marked by active participation and spirited discussions, underscored the Chairman's commitment to bringing governance closer to the people and empowering the community to shape its development priorities.
The meeting primarily focused on identifying and addressing the most pressing infrastructural challenges in the LGA. In the Chairman's opening address, Chief Chikwe urged stakeholders to prioritize their community's needs and work collaboratively with the government to achieve targeted interventions. His message was clear: sustainable development must be led by the community itself, with the government acting as a responsive partner.
Several prominent LGA leaders and contributors were present, including Chief Mike Uzodimma, Chief Paul Obasi, Chief Tony Odirichukwu, Chief Jude Agulanna, Chief Ofoegbu, Chief Francis Nzenwata and others. They commended the Chairman's efforts to engage with the grassroots directly, emphasizing how this level of involvement reflects a responsive and transparent approach to governance. In a show of solidarity, the leaders pledged their support for Chief Larry’s leadership, committing to work closely with him to turn the aspirations of the people into reality.
The Legislative Council leader, Chief Calistus Onuoha echoed this sentiment, affirming the Council’s readiness to support the Chairman in driving meaningful development. He assured stakeholders that the Council would provide the necessary legislative backing to facilitate impactful projects and effective representation. The gathering resolved to adopt a structured approach to identifying urgent infrastructure needs through a collaborative effort involving Councilors, Presidents-General (PGs), ward leaders, and All Progressives Congress (APC) party Chairmen. Reports detailing prioritized infrastructure projects are to be compiled and submitted to the Chairman through the Councilors on or before Tuesday next week.
The meeting drew a diverse representation from across Ahiazu Mbaise, including Councilors, Presidents-General of various town unions, APC chairmen and secretaries, ward leaders, and even former political aspirants, demonstrating a shared commitment to the LGA’s advancement.
This town hall meeting stands as a testament to Ahiazu Mbaise LGA's dedication to inclusive governance. By empowering stakeholders to take an active role in setting developmental priorities, the LGA is championing a model of governance where decisions are made by the people and for the people.
