WHY FEMALE GE***AL MUTILATION?
Around January-February 2016, I was writing this particular book on issues face by the Girl Child. It was intended to be a guide for individuals or organizations working around gender, and also those seeking to understand the issues face by the girl child. Although, the book was later, not published due to poor resource mobilization. However, that process, led me to one of my greatest discoveries, FGM.
At that time, I was browsing through the internet, researching on harmful practices done by different cultures, since it was difficult for me, to travel down to different communities, to conduct a proper research, I came across Female Ge***al Mutilation(FGM).
You needed to see my expression that moment.
You mean what?
Was this actually practiced by human being? And to my greatest surprised, I did not only found out that it was practiced before, rather, it is still being practice.
Then, Imagine how shocked I was, when I later discovered that Nigeria is one of the countries in the world with high prevalent rate of FGM. In fact, my own Imo State is among the highly rated numbers.
The first thing I did after this discovery was, I gathered a team and went to Ikeduru LGA, and conducted a physical research analysis. Secondly, I immediately contacted my mother and asked her if I was ever mutilated, she said no.
I became more dumbfounded after that movement.
And ever since 2016, I have been so passionate to contribute my own efforts, to ensure this practice is eradicated in our generation.
My question to you reading this, have you understood FGM?
Do you believe it should be eradicated?
Will you be willing to do something based on your believe?
, we will create an environment where women are bold enough to break stereotypes while living in communities, free from gender harmful practices.
