DSCL: ways to secure your assets and premises
CCTV cameras & alarms
CCTV is associated with significant reductions in property crime, so if you want to deter criminals and protect your premises during lockdown, this is an effective method of doing so. As well as deterring theft and damage, many CCTV and alarm systems have remote viewing or motion-detecting capabilities. This is invaluable in our current situation as it allows you to monitor your security constantly without you having to physically be at your premises.

DSCL: ways to secure your assets and premises
It looks like partial lockdown will be continuing for at least another weeks and even then, if the situation is looking promising, only what are considered as ‘essential businesses’ will open up first.
To ensure that your business is protected throughout this time (so that you actually have a business to return to), here are 4 ways that you can increase security.
1. DO IT YOURSELF METHODS
Here are some important security tips:
Maintain your physical security and procedures at all times.
Identify vulnerable areas and plan to put extra protection on them, ensure security gates, bollards and fire exits are secure.
Remove all high-value goods and cash to a more secure location and put a note on the outside to advise that this is the case.
Visit your premises regularly to make sure that your site and assets are secure.
Test your alarm, ensure it is monitored and fully operational with a list of up to date key holders given to any alarm monitoring company like DSCL
Consider changing access control privileges.
Consider light timer switches.
Consider the risk of arson and remove anything flammable from view.

The challenge presented by Coronavirus has been an unprecedented one. One with tragic consequences for many individuals and their families. We must never forget that behind every story is a human being. We know that many security officers are working on the frontline in the battle against this crisis. These include DSCL security staffs, police and other government security agencies.
The Government is clear that the responsibility for undertaking a proper risk assessment, and implementing the necessary measures, rests with the employer. We agree with this approach, because only the employer can understand the specific details on the ground. The Government has published a number of guides for those working in a variety of environments.
The guidance also refers to PPE (personal protection equipment) requirements. The current advice suggests that the added value from some measures is very limited outside of a clinical/medical setting. The guidance continues to highlight the overwhelming benefits of good hand hygiene, and the limited role of face coverings. We are not in a position to offer anything further to this advice, which is based on the latest available science.
As we begin to adjust to a “new normal” I believe that there are lessons we must learn from this pandemic.we will consider what we have learnt, and apply changes in all our operations. Thank you
Stay safe

A secure workplace

Every firm should have a Visitors' Book prominently displayed at Reception. You should ensure that all visitors to your premises sign in with their details. There are a number of reasons why this is important, particularly for safety reasons; this procedure will enable you to keep track of who is in the building, and where they are. This will be important in times of emergency evacuation of the premises or a fire safety incident. It might also be of help if there were an incident affecting personal security.

'Personal security' covers issues such as violence and aggression in the workplace, whether from employers, fellow employees, visitors or the public.

The Health and Safety Executive’s definition of work-related violence is: ‘any incident in which a person is abused, threatened or assaulted in circumstances relating to their work’. So, 'violence' can range from a life-threatening physical attack to verbal abuse.

Unfortunately, verbal abuse and threats are relatively common – actual physical attacks, thankfully, are still comparatively rare.

Dealing with violence=

As an employer, you need to ensure that your workplace is as free as possible from the danger of violence. For example, if a female employee has to work late and is alone in the office, what hazards could she face?

You have a duty to identify and deal with any potential risk to your employees. Working through this four-stage process should help you ensure a trouble free environment at work:

Finding out if you have a problem - have you or any of your employees been subjected to violence in any form?
Deciding what action to take - what's the best way to prevent it happening again?
Taking the appropriate action - hiring a security guard? Issuing each employee with a key to the office? Setting up a hotline to the local police station?
Checking what you have done - have there been any more incidents? If so, did the new measure help? If not, why not?

Lone workers =

You have a special obligation towards any employee who works alone in the workplace, at whatever time of day. It is your duty to assess the risks to such lone workers (office cleaners, the computer programmer who doesn't want to go home, the secretary trying to get a report finished) and to take steps to avoid or control these risks. The potential areas of concern include:

safe ways in and out of the premises
access to first aid equipment, fire extinguishers, etc.
safe use of equipment and plant by one person
safety of the workplace for a lone woman or young person.
