*How Jamb Calculates Score for Other UTME Subjects.*

Except for English (Use of English) in Jamb UTME which has 60 questions in number, any other UTME subject has 40 questions.

Note. Each of these questions is graded or scored 2.5 marks. Therefore 2.5 marks per question multiplied by 40 = 100marks

That is to say, the other three UTME subjects carries 300marks (40 x 2.5 + 40 x 2.5 + 40 x 2.5) = 300 marks, plus (+) English 100 marks = 400 marks

*To Calculate the Score for the other three UTME Subjects.*

Let’s say Ada answered 30 questions correctly in mathematics, physics, and chemistry respectively. To calculate Ada’s score in each of these UTME subjects is the same as = multiplying the number of correctly answered questions for each of the subjects (30) by their various marks (2.5).

Solution:

In MATHEMATICS 40 questions 2.5 marks each, Ada answered only 30 questions correctly (75 marks)

In PHYSICS 40 questions 2.5 marks each, Ada answered only 30 questions correctly (75 marks)

In CHEMISTRY 40 questions 2.5 marks each, Ada answered only 30 questions correctly (75 marks)
Ada’s total mark in these three UTME subjects is 75 + 75 + 75 = 225 marks.

Lastly, what will be Ada’s Jamb UTME Score?

Ada’s UTME Score = total of all the four UTME subject Marks

Use of English = 60 Marks

Mathematics = 75 Marks

Physics = 75 Marks

Chemistry = 75 Marks

UTME TOTAL SCORE = 60 + 75 + 75 + 75 = 285

Ada’s JAMB UTME Score is 285 over 400

🚨 *IMPORTANT INFORMATION 🚨*

Please read carefully to avoid problems later 👇

Your Date of Birth on your JAMB portal must be exactly the same as the one on your birth certificate. No mismatch at all.

Your Name on WAEC and JAMB must match. If you used two names on WAEC, use the same two names on JAMB.

Don’t use three names on JAMB and two names on WAEC — that mistake causes serious issues.

Everything on your JAMB portal (Name, Date of Birth, Gender, State of Origin, Local Government) is automatically transferred to your school portal.

⚠️ So if any detail is wrong on JAMB — wrong name or wrong date of birth — it will affect your verification and admission process.

*NEW PROCEDURE FOR CORRECTION OF NAME*

Before now, it was believed the following is the procedure for change of name.
1. Swearing an affidavit stating the intention to change or correct a name.
2. Publishing the notice of change of name in a national newspaper.
3. Using the new name in subsequent transactions and correspondences.

The Supreme Court has now clarified that affidavit and newspaper publication alone are insufficient, particularly where the name appears on official or government records like WAEC, Jamb, university certificate etc. The Court held that: “it is only by Deed Poll, and not by mere deposition, that a name on an official certificate can be effected, as the procedure affects official records and national archives.”

In the case of PDP & Ors v. Degi-Eremienyo & Ors (2020) LPELR-49734(SC), the court showed the new position on how to change name, which is;
1 Swear to an affidavit of change of name.
2. Execute a Deed Poll.
3. Publish the Deed Poll in a national newspaper.
4. Publish the change of name in the Official Gazette of the Nigerian Civil Registry.
5. Apply for new government documents (e.g., NIN, passport, voter’s card) reflecting the new name.

*🚨 CLARIFICATION: JAMB HAS NOT BEEN SCRAPPED*

The recent ministry of education press release is not about scrapping JAMB — rather, it’s aimed at creating more opportunities for students to gain admission.

Key highlights include:

✅ Candidates with D7 in Mathematics can now apply for non-science courses
✅ Candidates with D7 in English can apply for science-related courses
✅ Polytechnics and Colleges of Education may accept 4 O’Level credits instead of 5

This update is meant to make admission more inclusive, not to cancel JAMB.
