HOW TO FATTEN YOUR PIGS BEFORE SALES
One way to enjoy sales of your pigs is for your pigs to look healthy with a lot of weight.
In the part of the world where we operate from, prices are not regulated. The leverage you have with the butchers(buyers) is if your pigs are properly finished.
By properly finished I mean your pigs to look healthy and well fed.
If your pigs look well fed, the buyers will scramble to buy from you and they will be at your mercy.
You will be able to fix a higher price and they will buy from you without complain.
However, if your pigs look skinny and not well fed…ha…the buyers will frustrate you. They will price your pigs what a vulture prices a co**se (Igbo adage).
That is why it is important to fatten your pigs properly before sales and in this article I will show you how.
The first you will do as you prepare to fatten your pigs is to deworm them.
Worms are parasites and can frustrate your efforts if you don’t eradicate them. No matter how nutritious your feed is, if the pigs are infested with worms, they will not fatten well because as the pigs eat, the worms will consume the food, leaving very little for the pigs to fatten with.
So, expel the worms using a good dewormer like LEVAMISOLE.
Secondly and most importantly, fortify the feed with enough Carbohydrate.
Carbohydrate is directly responsible for weight gain.
A lot of farmers are ignorant about this and that is why they stick to Palm Kernel Cake (PKC). PKC is mainly fiber.
Fiber materials such as PKC, wheat bran, Rice bran, Brewery waste etc cannot fatten pigs. PKC that contains oil can try but will not get the job done quickly.
If you want your pigs to gain a lot of weight in a short while, fortify their feed with proper Carbohydrate like Potatoes flour, Cassava, Wheat, Indomie dough, Spaghetti dough, Maize etc.
You will be amazed at the kind of weight the pigs will amass in a short while and when you call in buyers, they will scramble to buy at your price. What this means is more profit for you.
Thirdly, give your pigs access to uninterrupted clean water supply.
Pigs need alot of water to add weight. Infact research has shown that for every 1kg of feed the pig consume, they need 3 liters of clean water to be able to optimize the feed and convert it to meat.
Installing ni**le drinkers in your farm will solve that problem for you.
In summary, properly deworm your pigs, fortify theri feed with Sufficient carbohydrate and give them access to clean water. If you do all of these, your pigs will gain alot of weight and you will smile to the bank.
