50 BROILER FARMING COST BREAKDOWN (BEGINNER REALISTIC MODEL)

This breakdown is based on a 7 week broiler cycle under normal Nigerian farm conditions.

CHICK COST

50 day old broilers
Price per chick = 1,500 Naira

Total chicks = 75,000 Naira

EQUIPMENT AND BROODING SETUP

Feeders, drinkers, charcoal pots, basic brooding tools

Estimated cost = 30,000 Naira

BEDDING, LOGISTICS AND LABOUR

Litter, transport, minor setup support, handling costs

Estimated cost = 15,000 Naira

MEDICATION AND VACCINATION

Preventive drugs, vaccines, vitamins, stress control

Estimated cost = 20,000 Naira

FEED CALCULATION (MOST IMPORTANT PART)

A realistic broiler consumes:

4.8 kg to 5.5 kg of feed in 7 weeks

For safety and real farm conditions, we use:

5.2 kg per bird average

Total birds = 50

Total feed = 50 × 5.2 kg = 260 kg feed

FEED SPLIT

Starter phase (0 to 4 weeks) = 60 percent
Finisher phase (5 to 7 weeks) = 40 percent

Starter feed = 156 kg
Finisher feed = 104 kg

CONVERT TO BAGS (25 kg per bag standard)

Starter = 156 ÷ 25 = 6.2 bags
Finisher = 104 ÷ 25 = 4.2 bags

Rounded for practical farm buying:

Starter feed = 7 bags
Finisher feed = 5 bags

Total feed = 12 bags

FEED COST

Starter feed price = 21,500 per bag
Finisher feed price = 21,000 per bag

Starter = 7 × 21,500 = 150,500 Naira
Finisher = 5 × 21,000 = 105,000 Naira

Total feed cost = 255,500 Naira

STEP 6: TOTAL PROJECT COST

Chicks = 75,000
Equipment = 30,000
Logistics = 15,000
Medication = 20,000
Feed = 255,500

TOTAL COST = 395,500 Naira

STEP 7: MORTALITY REALITY (10% MODEL)

Expected mortality = 10 percent

50 birds = 5 losses

Survivors = 45 birds

Important reality check
Feed cost does NOT reduce because feed is already purchased based on full flock capacity.

COST PER BIRD (CRITICAL BREAKDOWN)

Total cost = 395,500 Naira

Cost per surviving bird:

395,500 ÷ 45 = 8,789 Naira per bird (approx)

If all 50 birds survive:

395,500 ÷ 50 = 7,910 Naira per bird (approx)

SIMPLE PRICING FORMULA

Total Cost ÷ Number of Birds = Cost per Bird
Cost per Bird + Profit = Selling Price

Example : If you spent 400,000k raising birds your cost per bird =4,000
if you sell below this, you are at loss

Decide your profit margin depending on the market in your location

Noiler birds are not priced blindly
Bigger birds = Higher price

if you don't know your numbers, buyer will control your price.
But when you understand your cost and value, you control the market
