Nigeria’s non-oil exporters are not struggling with demand — they are battling the cost of doing business. Confidence is soaring, ambition is rising, but the system meant to power growth is quietly holding it back.

The 2026 Non-Oil Export Index reveals a powerful paradox. Business Confidence stands at a strong **87.8**, while the Predictive Outlook surges to **92.8**, with 83% of exporters planning to expand production capacity. Sales are growing. Global demand is present. The appetite to invest is real.

Yet ex*****on remains the bottleneck. The Logistics Benchmark crashes to a critical **12.8**, the weakest score in the entire study. Over 77% of exporters report rising inland transport and port costs — eroding margins and weakening global competitiveness. Finance (52.7) and regulatory efficiency (54.8) remain stagnant, offering little structural lift.

Energy costs emerge as the number one constraint to scaling (51.1%), followed by quality and standardization gaps. The core insight is unmistakable: Nigeria’s exporters are opportunity-rich but ex*****on-constrained.

If logistics, energy, and trade-enabling systems are fixed, today’s optimism can translate into measurable export growth. Without reform, confidence may remain high — but scalable transformation will stay out of reach.
