Artificial intelligence is changing the way online scams work in Nigeria. Fraudsters can now use AI to clone voices, create deepfake videos and generate convincing messages that appear to come from family members, friends, celebrities or trusted public figures.

Imagine getting a desperate voice note from someone close to you asking for money. It sounds exactly like them—but it could be AI.

As these scams become more convincing, the simple rule is: Verify before you act.

📞 Call the person directly.
❓ Ask questions only they can answer.
💰 Never send money simply because a familiar voice or face asks you to.

From its National AI Strategy to the One Million Coders Programme, Ghana is investing in the technology, talent and partnerships needed to scale innovation and create new opportunities.

More than 12,000 course completions have already been recorded in the early weeks of Phase Two of the One Million Coders Programme.

Abia Says Tax Reforms Are About Automation, Not Higher Taxes

The Abia State Government says its ongoing tax reforms are focused on automating revenue collection, improving transparency and closing revenue leakages — not increasing taxes.

Officials say there have been no increases in PAYE, land tax, vehicle licences or Tax Clearance Certificate fees.

The reforms include automated payments at vehicle licensing offices and the consolidation of multiple charges, including stallage and ASEPA fees, into a single demand notice.

The government also says taxpayers will be allowed to explain bank transactions before they are considered during tax assessments.

The Federal Government has partnered with Meta, 3MTT and RAIN to launch an AI Academy aimed at building Nigeria’s next generation of artificial intelligence talent.

The programme will offer free AI training, a startup pitchathon and a six-week developer bootcamp, covering areas such as generative AI, prompt engineering, data analytics and Meta’s Llama models.

🚀 Top 100 performers can qualify for Meta Blueprint certification scholarships and up to $5,000 in advertising credits, while two winning startups will receive $5,000 each plus additional support and an opportunity to attend Meta’s AI Summit in Istanbul.

Abia Deploys App to Track High-Risk Pregnancies

The Abia State Government has rolled out CYTrack, a digital health app designed to help health workers identify and monitor high-risk and teenage pregnancies.

The app sends antenatal reminders, tracks expectant mothers through delivery and helps health workers respond when vulnerable pregnant women miss appointments or approach their expected delivery dates.
