π’ A Personal Experience with NDLEA β A Cautionary Message to Nigerians
I recently went through a very painful and confusing experience involving my father and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
During a search operation at our family house in the village, my father was arrested β not because he was the main target, but because of items that were suddenly "discovered" in the house. What made the situation troubling was that a certain individual, believed to be connected to the operation, had entered the house briefly before the main NDLEA team arrived.
We strongly suspect that this individual may have contributed to what was later found, but unfortunately, we have no CCTV or solid proof due to the rural setting. It left us devastated β watching an innocent man taken while the real person of interest was never caught.
To secure his release, we ended up spending β¦380,000 With the help of a Lawyer β a huge amount for a family trying to survive, and all for something we truly believe he had no knowledge of.
We've followed peaceful channels, submitted petitions, and tried not to escalate the matter β not because we expect quick justice, but because itβs the right thing to do.
π¬ What I Learned:
Be watchful of who enters your home β especially during sensitive periods.
Even in rural areas, try to document your surroundings.
Respect authorities but never remain silent when something feels wrong.
Protect your parents, especially in this kind of system.
Share your experiences β it might help someone else tomorrow.
This post is not to accuse or condemn, but simply to raise awareness. Nigeria is our home, and we all have a role to play in making it safer and more just.
