FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE AKWA IBOM STATE COMMAND HOSTS NYSC OFFICIALS ON COURTESY VISIT TO STRENGTHEN INTER-AGENCY COLLABORATION

In a strategic move to bolster public safety and foster inter-agency synergy, the State Controller of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Akwa Ibom State Command, CSF Nkanang Mayen Charles, hosted senior officials of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Akwa Ibom State, on a high-level courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters today, 30th March 2026.

The visit centered on consolidating the existing partnership between the two federal entities, particularly in the areas of safety awareness, emergency preparedness, and community service. with a specific focus to empower corps members as frontline safety ambassadors within the state.

Commitment to Youth Empowerment and Fire Safety
Welcoming the delegation, CSF Nkanang Mayen Charles expressed her profound appreciation for the NYSC’s enduring contribution to national unity and development. She noted that the vigor of the youth remains a vital asset in disaster risk reduction. In her statement,
"Safety is a collective responsibility, and the NYSC provides a unique platform to disseminate life-saving information,"
She further proposed intensified fire drills and safety workshops at the NYSC Orientation Camp and various Corpers’ Lodges across the state to ensure a fire-conscious youth population.

The Akwa Ibom State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Ngozi Akuagbaogu, lauded the Command for its hospitality and professional excellence. She underscored the indispensable role the Federal Fire Service plays in safeguarding lives and property, which is fundamental to the stability of any community.
Mrs. Akuagbaogu reaffirmed the NYSC’s readiness to collaborate on statewide sensitization programs. She emphasized that through this partnership, corps members would gain valuable skills in disaster management, further enriching their service year and enhancing their value to their host communities.

The meeting concluded with a formal exchange of ideas on logistical support and the scheduling of joint sensitization exercises. The visit was capped with a symbolic handshake between the two heads of agency and a group photograph with senior officers from both agencies, marking a renewed era of cooperation.

The State Controller, Federal Fire Service, Akwa Ibom State Command CSF Nkanang Mayen, today 30th March , 2026, played host to officials of the Waste Management Society of Nigeria.

The visit was aimed at fostering collaboration and strengthening partnerships between the Federal Fire Service and the Waste Management Society of Nigeria, particularly in areas relating to environmental safety, fire prevention, and effective waste management practices.

In her remarks, the State Controller of the Federal Fire Service, CSF Nkanang Mayen Charles welcomed the delegation and emphasized the importance of proper waste management in preventing fire outbreaks and safeguarding lives and property. She noted that indiscriminate waste disposal and poor handling of flammable materials often contribute to fire incidents, and called for increased public awareness and adherence to safety standards.

The State Councilor of Waste Management Society of Nigeria. Dr. Anietie Ekpenyong Udo, expressed appreciation for the warm reception and commended the Federal Fire Service for its unwavering commitment to emergency response and public safety. FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE AKWA IBOM STATE COMMAND CONDUCTS EMERGENCY EVACUATION DRILL FOR NAFDAC STAFF IN UYO.

The Federal Fire Service Akwa Ibom State Command successfully conducted an Emergency Evacuation Drill for staff of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) at their office in the Federal Secretariat, Uyo on March 27, 2026.

The drill, led by SF Udoh Mboutidem, aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge on emergency response and proper evacuation procedures, enhancing awareness and preparedness, and improving inter-agency collaboration.

NAFDAC staff were guided on responding effectively to fire outbreaks and other emergencies, ensuring safety and minimizing risks. The staff demonstrated a commendable response to fire alarms, following evacuation routes and participating fully in the drill.

Pharm Nneche John I., State Coordinator of NAFDAC Uyo, expressed appreciation to the Federal Fire Service officers for their professionalism and dedication.
The drill achieved its objectives, enhancing awareness and preparedness among NAFDAC staff.

FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE, AKWA IBOM STATE COMMAND RESPONDS TO FIRE INCIDENT AT IDONGESIT NKANGA SECRETARIAT, UYO.

The Federal Fire Service, Akwa Ibom State Command, swiftly responded to a fire incident on the 3rd of March 2026 at the Ministry of Health, located within Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Abak Road, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Following a distress call received at 1424hrs, the firefighting team, led by ASFII Basil Umoh, promptly turned out at 1429hrs with appliance FFS 122, driven by SFA Nsikak Udo. Upon arrival at the scene, the team immediately deployed resources and commenced suppression operations. In a commendable display of inter-agency collaboration, the blaze was successfully contained and extinguished by the men of the Federal Fire Service with assistance from the Akwa Ibom State Fire Service. A thorough inspection was carried out to ensure there were no remaining pockets of fire before the crew returned to the station at 1530hrs.

Initial investigations indicate that the fire was suspected to be caused by a fault in a solar inverter system within the premises.

There were no casualties and no injuries recorded during the incident. While the fire resulted in an estimated property loss valued at ₦5 million, the timely and coordinated intervention of the firefighters successfully salvaged government properties and assets worth an estimated ₦500 million.

The Federal Fire Service, Akwa Ibom State Command, remains committed to safeguarding lives and properties.

Members of the public, as well as government ministries and agencies, are strongly advised to ensure the regular maintenance of electrical installations and solar inverter systems, and to observe all fire safety regulations to prevent similar incidents.

Federal Fire Service Akwa Ibom State Command Conducts Fire Safety Training in Collaboration with National Youth Service Corps Disaster Management CDS Group

The Federal Fire Service, Akwa Ibom State Command, on Friday 20th February, 2026 successfully carried out a comprehensive fire safety training and sensitization programme on the proper use of fire extinguishers in collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Disaster Management Community Development Service (CDS) Group.
The training exercise, aimed at promoting fire prevention awareness and enhancing emergency response capacity at the grassroots level, brought together corps members and community stakeholders for practical and theoretical sessions on fire safety measures.
The programme was led by ASF11 Edem Akaninyene Horgan, who served as the Team Lead. He delivered detailed lectures on fire safety measures, fire prevention strategies, and the correct handling and operation of various types of fire extinguishers. Participants were also taken through practical demonstrations to ensure proper understanding and hands-on experience.
Speaking during the training, ASF11 Edem Akaninyene Horgan emphasized the importance of early fire detection, routine safety checks, and the need for individuals and organizations to prioritize fire safety preparedness. He reiterated the commitment of the Akwa Ibom State Command to continuous public enlightenment and community engagement in line with its mandate to safeguard lives and property.
The collaboration with the NYSC Disaster Management CDS Group underscores the shared commitment to building a safety-conscious society and empowering young leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond effectively to fire emergencies.

The Ag. State Controller of the Federal Fire Service, Akwa Ibom State Command, CSF Nkanang Mayen, today Monday 23 February 2026 warmly receives and commends the officers and men of the Command who successfully completed and passed out from the Basic Fire Fighting Course held in Jos, Plateau State.
The Command expresses great pride in the dedication, discipline, and professionalism displayed by the personnel throughout the duration of the training. Their successful completion of the course is a testament to their commitment to excellence and continuous capacity building in service to the nation.

Yesterday, the Officers of the Federal Fire Service, Akwa Ibom State Command - led by ASFII Daniel Ekere, attended the Annual Security Service Personnel Thanksgiving, hosted by The Seventh Day Adventist Church, Uyo.

Also present at the Thanksgiving were other agencies.

*The Officers of FFS, Akwa Ibom State Command, spoke on the Dangers of Fire, as well as how to prevent, protect against, and also mitigate it. We also commended the warm welcome and steps the Seventh Day Adventist church made in order to bring this awareness to it's members*

FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE AKWA IBOM COMMAND AVERTS TRAGEDY, SAVES ₦20 MILLION IN RAPID RESPONSE TO RESIDENTIAL FIRE AT NSENTIP STREET

In a swift and coordinated operation, the Akwa Ibom State Command of the Federal Fire Service on Friday, January 30, 2026, successfully extinguished a structural fire at Nsentip Street, off Abak Road, Uyo. The prompt and professional intervention of the firefighting crew prevented the blaze from spreading to adjacent properties, saving assets estimated at ₦20 million, with no casualties recorded.

At about 16:25 hours, the Command’s Watch Room received a distress call from one Mr. Aniefiok reporting the incident. Firefighters from the Federal Secretariat Fire Station were immediately mobilized and turned out for the operation at 16:29 hours.

The fire involved a storey building used for residential purpose. Preliminary investigation reveals that the fire was caused by a cooking gas explosion.

Under the command of ASF II Lawani Obekpa, the firefighting crew aboard FFS 122 swiftly deployed to the scene. In a collaborative effort assisted by men of the Akwa Ibom State Fire Service, the team successfully combated the blaze. The fire was completely extinguished, and a post-incident inspection was carried out to ensure there was no risk of re-ignition. The estimated property loss was valued at ₦10 million.

This incident underscores the critical importance of kitchen safety and the proper handling of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

Residents are strongly advised to regularly inspect gas cylinders, hoses, and regulators for leaks, ensure proper ventilation in cooking areas, and remain vigilant to prevent domestic accidents.

The Federal Fire Service reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property and assures the public of its constant readiness to respond promptly to all fire and emergency situations.
