FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE EQUIPS BENEFICIARIES WITH VITAL LPG SAFETY TRAINING AT NATIONAL GRASSROOTS PE*******ON PILOT IN UYO

The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Akwa Ibom State Command, successfully conducted a comprehensive Fire Safety Capacity Building Session at the Ibom Hall, IBB Avenue, Uyo on the 20th August 2026. The training was a central component of the Akwa Ibom State Pilot Activation for the Decade of Gas National Grassroots LPG Pe*******on Programme.

Acting on an official invitation from TopNotch Advisory, the Programme Consultant for the Decade of Gas Secretariat, the State Controller of the FFS Akwa Ibom State Command, CSF Nkanang Mayen Charles FCAI, authorized the deployment of a specialized training team. The initiative aligns with the Command's mandate to safeguard lives and property by ensuring the public is adequately prepared for emergencies.

As the Federal Government flags off the state distribution phase of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders to promote clean energy adoption, the FFS was tasked with providing practical guidance on the safe handling and use of LPG.

To achieve this, operatives of the Command engaged beneficiaries in rigorous simulation drills, which covered:

A practical fire drill and emergency response demonstration.
A hands-on demonstration of the correct use of fire extinguishers and other basic firefighting equipment.
Education on fundamental fire prevention measures and emergency response procedures tailored for homes and communities.
This proactive engagement is designed to greatly enhance the knowledge and confidence of the beneficiaries. By coupling the distribution of LPG cylinders with robust fire safety education, the Federal Fire Service is ensuring that the transition to clean energy across Akwa Ibom State is achieved in a safe, responsible, and sustainable manner.

FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE, AKWA IBOM STATE COMMAND SECURES STRATEGIC FIRE SAFETY PARTNERSHIP WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF UYO

The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Akwa Ibom State Command, has secured a strategic partnership with the University of Uyo to enhance institutional risk management, safeguard academic assets, and foster a proactive fire safety culture on campus.

On the 13th of August 2026, acting under the directive of the State Controller, Chief Superintendent of Fire (CSF) Nkanang Mayen Charles FCAI, the Command formally established the collaboration during a strategic meeting with the University's Director of Works, Engr. War T. Victor I. Core objectives of this partnership include comprehensive risk assessments, capacity building, continuous evaluation, and coordinated training.

Speaking during the interface with the Director of Works, SF Udoh Mbuotidem emphasized the necessity of the alliance: "It is our statutory responsibility to ensure that critical environments like universities are not only safe but strictly compliant with national fire safety protocols to protect lives and property."

Moving forward, the FFS and the University will launch targeted on-campus sensitization campaigns through the university fire warden. The Command remains committed to sustained engagement, ensuring the University of Uyo serves as a benchmark for institutional safety.
