WHAT NEXT?
Dear Nigerian Youth, at the time of writing this post, I know you may have lost hope entirely in our dear country. Like most of you, I once held an unfeigned belief and hope in our nation but the events of the past few days has brought me to ask a rather difficult question: “Is it an absolutely worthless exercise believing in Nigeria?”
The reasons for asking this question are not far-fetched. It is glaring that our leaders would rather let our beloved country burn than take definite steps to reform the nation. They would rather defend their personal assets than defend her citizens. They would rather allow the masses to go hungry, suffer and die than give up theirhumongous salaries, allowances and extravagant lifestyles.
What is even more worrisome is that our leaders have graduated from corruption to WICKEDNESS. How can palliatives meant for the poor and hungry be stored up to rot rather than distributed to those who truly need them? This wickedness is
monumental and appalling; it is sickening to the soul. What did we do to deservethese class and type of wicked leaders?
Today, most Nigeria youths are taking definite steps to leave the country permanently in search of peace, progress and prosperity. Of course you cannot judge them, as a friend of mine aptly stated, “Nigeria is designed to kill you.” Listening to the
President’s speech yesterday was the most demoralizing activity there is. It was aspeech riddled with nothingness and hopelessness. It was an utter gabble! An uninspiring conjecture put together to douse the tensions across the polity.
What next? That remains the big question on everyone’s mind. Should you leave Nigeria or should you stay? If you choose to stay, what future awaits you, your visions and your dreams? Ponder on these questions as you make a decision as regards your future.
Thank you.
Your dearest friend,
David Edet.
