SPE ABU Zaria Student Chapter — 2026 Regional Outstanding Student Chapter Award

We are proud to announce that the SPE Ahmadu Bello University Zaria Student Chapter has won the 2026 SPE Regional Outstanding Student Chapter Award for the Africa region, in the Technical Dissemination and Professional Development category (Large).

This is the penultimate recognition any student chapter can receive from SPE, awarded exclusively to chapters that have gone above and beyond in advancing SPE's technical and professional mission within their Super-Region. Winning it once is an achievement. Winning it twice in a row is a statement.

This belongs to every person who has been part of this chapter; our members who show up, our faculty adviser and grand patron who guide us, our patrons, alumni, resource persons, and everyone who has supported our programs, attended our events, sponsored our activities, and believed in what we are building here.

The work continues. We advance to the global round of judging for consideration for the Presidential Award for Outstanding Student Chapter; the highest honour SPE bestows on a student chapter anywhere in the world.

Some people manage platforms. She gave ours A VOICE.

Not just a voice. A personality. A heartbeat. A presence that made people stop scrolling and actually feel something.

Elaigwu Genevieve Ochanya, our Social Media Manager, did not play it safe in March. She told stories. She dared to dream out loud for this chapter, and she brought every single one of those dreams to life in Pixels, captions and moments that moved people.

Every post carried intention. Every story reflected who we are. Every campaign reached further than it had any right to reach, because she willed it to.

That is the difference between managing and building. She built.
Disciplined. Creative. Unapologetically bold.

She is THE VOICE behind our digital presence, and in March, that voice rang clear.

📍 STSE 2026 RECAP — LOOKING BACK

A week later, we’re still reflecting on what was truly an unforgettable experience at the 24th Annual Students’ Technical Symposium & Exhibition (STSE 2026).

From engaging in conversations on the future of energy to connecting with industry professionals and fellow students, STSE 2026 reminded us of the importance of growth, collaboration, and purpose.

Day 2 pushed us to think ahead, as Temitope Oshuntuyi spoke on future-proofing—preparing for change, embracing uncertainty, and positioning ourselves for emerging opportunities.
This was followed by an engaging panel session with energy leaders, and an insightful industrial visit to the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company, Warri Refinery and Petrochemicals Company, and the PTI Flow Station, bridging theory with real-world operations.

By Day 3, the experience came full circle. A valuable mentorship session provided guidance and perspective on navigating life and career beyond the classroom. While our Petrobowl journey ended at the quarterfinal stage against University of Uyo, we remain proud of the resilience, teamwork, and growth displayed throughout the competition. 💪

Beyond the sessions and activities, what stands out most are the lessons learned, the connections built, and the renewed drive to lead and contribute meaningfully to the energy industry.

🙏 We extend our sincere appreciation to SPE Nigeria Council Chair, Francis Nwaochei, and SPE Students Programs Chair, Bebenibo Ebifagha, for their leadership and commitment to student development.

📌 STSE 2026 may be over, but the journey continues.
