Campanula is een plant met een frisse uitstraling in merendeels blauwe, paarse en witte kleuren. De naam klokje of klokjesbloem wekt de suggestie van een plant met klokvormige bloemen. Dat keert ook terug in de wetenschappelijke naam: Campana betekent klok en Campanula is het verkleinwoord: klokje. Er zijn eveneens soorten die stervormige bloemen hebben, zoals de ster van Bethlehem en soorten met schaal- en buisvormige bloemen. Campanula wordt niet alleen ingezet als woonplant, maar als de temperatuur het toelaat ook als tuin- en terrasplant.
