Three lines that tell a story.
Three lines that can picture an entire world.

A trigram consists of only three lines.

Broken or unbroken.
Yin or Yang.

Simple.

And yet these eight possible combinations became one of the fundamental languages of classical Chinese thought:

Heaven. Earth. Thunder. Wind. Water. Fire. Mountain. Lake.

They are not merely eight images from nature. They describe eight fundamental movements and conditions of life.

Learn the movement behind the symbol, and the Yijing begins to look very different.

You stop memorizing images.

You begin learning a language.

And once you begin to understand that language, the hexagrams start speaking in an entirely different way.

Learn the language of the Yijing — don’t just read the book. Come and study with us.

Wood becomes Fire.
Fire creates Earth.
Earth bears Metal.
Metal enriches Water.
Water nourishes Wood.

The Five Elements are often presented as five separate substances. But the Chinese idea points much more towards movement, transformation and relationship.

Growth. Expansion. Ripening. Contraction. Stillness. And then growth again.

Once you begin to see the Five Phases this way, they start appearing everywhere.

In nature.
In relationships.
In your own life.
In organizations.

Chinese cosmology is not simply trying to classify the world.

It is trying to understand how the world moves, and how one movement gives rise to the next.

What do you actually study when you begin with Nourishing Destiny?

Let’s start by being clear about what we don’t study.

We are not here to predict every step of your future, nor are we interested in reducing people to a collection of personality labels.

We begin with the architecture underneath the system, the fabric of the Dao itself.

Where does movement arise from?

We study Yin and Yang: opposing forces that continuously create, transform and give rise to one another.

We study Wuxing, the Five Phases, and the way energy moves through cycles of growth, expression, transformation, contraction and renewal.

We study the Eight Trigrams, the fundamental building blocks through which the Yijing describes the movements of life.

And from those foundations, we move deeper into the world of Chinese metaphysics:

Nine Star Ki.
The Yijing.
Wenwang Gua.

And eventually, the synthesis of them all:

The Nourishing Destiny Model™.

The depth of our work is possible because the foundations are solid. We do not simplify these systems until there is nothing left of them. We learn their language, understand their architecture and then discover how extraordinarily far that knowledge can take us.

Its reach goes far beyond what you may initially imagine.

We are not here to repeat what already exists. We are here to disrupt the way these ancient systems are understood and used.

WHEN SOMETHING IS NO LONGER OPTIONAL
period 8 August - 8 september 2026

Hexagram 51 consists of Thunder over Thunder. Something is moving within you, but something can also happen in the outer field that makes it impossible to continue in quite the same way.

The shock does not have to be dramatic. Sometimes it is simply the moment when you suddenly realize that a relationship is draining you, that you have been postponing a decision for months, that your work no longer feels right, or that you keep making yourself smaller in order to preserve the peace.

What can make this period feel particularly intense is that there is very little rest between the different forces within Hexagram 51. One part of you wants to move forward, while another clings to what is familiar. Your mind may want something different from your body, your feelings may already know that something is over while your rational mind is still trying to explain why you should stay, and sometimes you may even notice yourself changing direction several times within only a few days.

That does not necessarily mean that you have lost your way. Very often, it is precisely through this inner tension that you begin to see where you have been divided within yourself for much longer. Perhaps you have already noticed during this period that old certainties feel less solid, that something which normally seemed self-evident has started to grate, or that you can no longer so easily convince yourself of a story that, deep down, has already stopped being true.

Thunder awakens, but waking up is not yet the same as changing.

Line 5 — Officer & Ghost 官鬼

In the fifth line, the I Ching says that the shock moves back and forth, that there is danger, but also that nothing is lost and that there is something to be done.

That last part is important to me.

Officer & Ghost is often associated with pressure, fear, problems, illness or authority, but psychologically this Liuqin becomes especially interesting when you begin to feel that something has consequences.

You can know for a very long time that something is not right and still do nothing about it. You know that you need to have a conversation, that you need to set a boundary, that you need to let something go, or that you finally need to make a decision, while at the same time keeping yourself busy with almost everything except that one thing.

This is where Officer & Ghost comes in. Not necessarily as a problem arriving from outside, but as an inner pressure that becomes increasingly difficult to ignore.

You wake up and realize that you are thinking yet again about the same conversation you have been postponing for weeks. You feel tension the moment a certain name appears on your phone. You know your business needs a different direction, yet you keep making another plan, taking another course and having one more discussion, because acting also means taking responsibility for the consequences.

Or perhaps you know deep down that a relationship has to change fundamentally, but as long as you do not say it out loud, you can still pretend that nothing needs to be decided.

That is Officer & Ghost territory, not because it is inherently negative, but because the possibility of remaining noncommittal begins to disappear.

This line also contains Geng Shen — Yang Metal. Metal distinguishes, sets boundaries and cuts away what is no longer necessary. This can make the period confrontational for anyone who tries to find safety in postponement, overanalysis or endlessly keeping every possibility open.

There comes a point when thinking even more is no longer a form of deepening, but a form of avoidance.

The question of this line is therefore not so much: what else could I possibly do? The far more important question is: what have I actually known for a long time, but still do not dare to take completely seriously?

Officer & Ghost does not ask for panic. It asks for maturity.

𝟮 𝘁𝗼 𝟴 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿
Line 6 — Wife & Wealth 妻財

Then the movement shifts towards Wife & Wealth, and I find this transition particularly powerful. First it becomes clear where responsibility is needed; then the question arises of what real value can emerge from that movement.

Within Wenwang Gua, Wife & Wealth relates to money, possessions, resources and returns, but psychologically it also concerns our relationship with value itself. Can you genuinely acknowledge that something you do, create or contribute has value, or do you diminish it the moment something begins to come back to you?

On this sixth line we also find Shi — the Self, which brings the question very close to home.

Perhaps during this period you finally set a boundary and discovered how much peace it gave you. Perhaps you had the conversation you had been postponing for weeks and clarity emerged from it. Perhaps you put something out into the world and discovered that other people genuinely see value in it, or perhaps you stepped away from something that was costing you a great deal of energy and are only now beginning to notice how much strength has become available again.

For me, this is the interesting psychological movement of Wife & Wealth. It is not only about looking at what something costs you, but also about recognizing what can arise when you stop constantly holding yourself back, postponing yourself or giving yourself away.

Some people are remarkably familiar with tension, responsibility and struggle. As long as something needs to be solved or carried, they know exactly what their role is. It can become much more uncomfortable when peace suddenly appears, when someone truly meets them, when something succeeds, or when life temporarily offers less resistance than they are accustomed to. At that point, receiving can turn out to require just as much inner work as acting.

And that is precisely why I find the transition from Officer & Ghost to Wife & Wealth so powerful. First it becomes clear what can no longer be ignored and where you need to take responsibility. Then it becomes visible what begins to change when you actually do so.

Perhaps that is ultimately the essence of these final days of Hexagram 51: not that you need to control every shock, but that you take seriously whatever has been awakened within you during this period.

A Nine Star Ki profile contains three numbers. Those three numbers are the beginning of your analysis. They point towards different qualities and potentials within a person.

How you respond.
How you naturally move.
How particular characteristics may express themselves.

But a human being does not develop in isolation. Therefore you ask another question: Within what pattern are these qualities trying to develop?

This is one of the places where the Nourishing Destiny model goes further. It connects Nine Star Ki with the language of the Yijing to explore not only what is present, but the conditions and movements
within which it unfolds.

A number tells you something.
A pattern tells you how things relate.

Destiny is not the same as fate.
You might think it does, but there is a clear distinction.

In the Daoist view behind the Nourishing Destiny model, every life contains certain patterns and potentials. And that word is key, it’s the potential; it’s not a given.

An acorn carries the potential of an oak tree. But whether that oak grows tall, crooked, strong or barely survives depends on the conditions in which it grows.

Human beings have something a tree does not. We can consciously change many of those conditions.

We can change our environment.
Our relationships.
Our response.
Our choices.
Our timing.

Your destiny therefore does not describe a prison. It describes the landscape in which your life unfolds. The purpose of understanding that landscape is not to surrender your freedom. It is to use it more wisely.

THE MONTH OF SHOCK

Can you feel the ground beneath you beginning to shift in sudden jolts?

Do you also have that indefinable feeling that, after the summer, the world looks very different from the way it did when summer began?

Or have you lost your bearings for a moment? Do you genuinely not know how to plan the rest of this year, as if the longer-term direction you had in mind has suddenly disappeared?

Congratulations.

Then you are already well attuned to this new month.

The month of Shock - Hexagram 51.

Shock brings activation back into the Jing system: your roots, your point of origin, the unconscious movements beneath the surface.

Why do you actually do the things you do in the way that you do them?

Shock invites you to return to the foundation. Not to fall back into old drama or panic, but to take the shock inward first. To step back for a moment and simply let the feeling be the feeling.

Something happens, and I discover from which place within myself I respond.

So do not immediately let yourself be carried away by the Shock, and above all, do not act from it. Because then you only amplify it and spread it further. You are no longer responding to what is happening; you have become caught inside it.

Very little good comes from that.

“I am here for myself. I am supported.”

Put your hands on your body for a moment and say it out loud:

“I am here for you. You are here for me.”

Just feel that.

Do not immediately move into action. Stay with it for a moment.

Action only truly makes sense when it arises deeply from the Self, unclouded by old entanglements, fear or reflex.

Then what you do is no longer simply a reaction.

It becomes an answer that truly comes from you.

Then it carries your authority.

Then it carries the time.

Wood. Fire. Earth. Metal. Water.

We all know them. Yet many still think they are strictly things. But they are mainly movements. They describe how life unfolds.

Every season.
Every emotion.
Every relationship.
Every stage of life.

Nothing exists on its own. Everything is part of a larger cycle of growth, transformation and renewal.

Once you begin to recognize these patterns, you stop fighting change and start moving with it. That is the foundation of Chinese philosophy.

Why do two people respond completely differently to the exact same situation?

One thrives under pressure. Another seeks stability.
One naturally leads. Another quietly supports.

Coincidence? According to Nine Star Ki the answer is a clear and decisive no.

Nine Star Ki is an ancient Chinese system that reveals the energetic patterns you were born with. Using your birth date, it uncovers your natural strengths, motivations and way of moving through life.

Your profile consists of three numbers. Together they form a unique blueprint of who you are. Not to put you in a box. But to help you understand yourself, make better decisions and live more in alignment with your true nature.

When will I die?

As a rule, I do not answer this question.

But in this woman’s case, because her question did not arise from fear and I knew she was capable of carrying the answer, I told her the year and the month.

“There are still a few things you need to do with certain members of your family,” I said. “And you know exactly who I mean.”

She nodded.

Four years passed.

Then I received an email.

“You were only one month off. I’m dying. I’m having one small gathering before I go, and I’d like you to be there.”

So I went.

“Do you see those people?” she asked.

I nodded.

“They’re my children. Over the past few years, I’ve been able to rebuild my relationship with them, at least in part, because of what you told me.”

She took my hand.

“Thank you.”

A month later, she died.

Her children invited me to the funeral, but I politely declined. Some time afterwards, I received a letter from her eldest daughter. She wrote about how, during the final four years of her mother’s life, she had chosen a different path—one that led her back into connection with her children and other family members.

“It was necessary,” she concluded.

Since then, I have often wondered whether the true value of a good divination lies not in predicting the future, but in opening a different way of living and thinking.

Perhaps a prediction does not change the future.

But sometimes, it changes the person who walks toward it.
