Our Amsterdam office held its first Sustainable Friday event organised by our Office & Events Manager, Odemaris.

The circular fashion event was a great opportunity to give our clothes a second life through a clothing swap and the help of a sewing expert.

Odemaris: “One of ADC’s core goals is to make a positive impact on the world. As such, we want to shed light on how to be more sustainable when it comes to fashion since the fashion industry is one of Europe’s (and the world’s) largest polluters.”

This event was a fun way to spend time as a Collective and understand how to act more sustainably in order to make a positive impact!

On Monday, Max, Saskia, and Eran attended (National Econometrician Day), which is the largest annual career event for Econometrics students in The Netherlands. On this day, over 800 students have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with their future careers and get in contact with their potential future employers.

Eran (Recruiter): “The event was a great way to connect with talented individuals and share the exiting opportunities at ADC! Hopefully we met some of our future colleagues.”

How can you share data between different parties while accounting for privacy concerns?

A few months ago a group of ADC Consultants developed a use case to test the Roseman Labs Virtual Data Lake product. The goal was to train a data science model in a fully encrypted environment.

Yesterday, they went to their office to share their observations and feedback on the product, followed by a delicious pizza party!

We look forward to continuing this collaboration with Roseman Labs!

What do transition based leadership, new connections, gin & tonics, and bootcamp have in common? These are a few of the ingredients of our Strategy & Culture Day for which the ADC team travelled to the beautiful green surroundings of the Veluwe. Rik van der Woerdt:

"This was a particularly exciting Strategy & Culture Day, as it was the first time that our Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Stockholm offices gathered together in person. We made a kick-start on how we want to capture the best of our joint knowledge and actively shape our culture as a post-merger collective. We're excited to share our updated strategy and culture plans as we implement them over the coming months!"

The world around us is digitising rapidly and the IT sector offers many job opportunities. We believe it is important that children start building awareness of the digital world from an early age, preparing them for their futures. As a result, we partnered with to organise trainings for students between the ages of 8 and 12 to work with programming and learn more about computer language, algorithms, and automation.

Recently, Dennis Knol, Max Dieleman, and Diederik Nederhorst gave a Digital Skills training session for a group of children in Amsterdam. Max (Consultant):

"Our goal is to create a playful and interactive first coding experience. We gave two trainings in which we taught the fundamentals of an algorithm by asking the children to program a robot and write a few first lines of code in Scratch to walk through a maze. Seeing the enthusiasm of the children was incredibly rewarding!"

Over the past few weeks, we celebrated both Day of the Dead and Sinterklaas! Our Office and Events Manager, Odemaris, planned two incredible Friday afternoon drinks that honoured the traditions of Mexican and Dutch cultures.

Odemaris: "The Day of the Dead is a celebration to honour our loved ones who passed away. On this day, we enjoyed cultural performances and celebrated life together. For Sinterklaas, we invited the ADC Kids Club (children of ADC colleagues) to the office for activities, including a visit from Sinterklaas and Piet."

These events were a fun way to spend time as a Collective and celebrate each other's individuality. At ADC, we aim to ensure that diversity, equity, and inclusion are promoted within our company culture year-round.

The AI4kids program is an initiative by ADC to teach kids in disadvantaged neighbourhoods about the possibilities of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. The ultimate goal is to increase the equality of opportunities. During our 2022 Collective Week, we created a new workshop to teach youth about data-driven recommendations in the context of social media.

Dennis Knol (Consultant and AI4Kids Founder): “It is amazing to see how kids react to our workshops. The kids are quick to understand the data science concepts we explain in the workshops and some get very enthusiastic about a possible future career in the field of AI!”

A group of over twenty ADC Consultants participated in a two-day internal hackathon. The goal was for them to gain an in-depth understanding of our three competence centres: Strategy & Innovation, Advanced Analytics, and Data Engineering. Each team designed, built, and brought into production a data science product focused on the challenge of encouraging consumers to make more sustainable food choices.

Joost Veenkamp (Senior Consultant): "The goal of each group was to build an open-source, scalable tool that enables supermarkets to report meaningful climate impact metrics for any possible product. The tool should lower the barrier for supermarkets to report climate impact to their customers and stimulate sustainable decision making. With relentless energy and focus, each of the five groups was able to create a functional end-to-end product!"

It is amazing to see how our Collective culture not only survives our fast growth, but is also the driving force behind our success.

Last week we met future econometricians and business analysts while attending both the organised by .rotterdam at and "Welcome To Your Future" a career fair hosted by at .

Juliette Makau, Lars Heldens, Lourens Vale, and Henriette Claus showed students the typical life of an ADC consultant. The events were great opportunities to meet future data science consultants while showing how they can use both their quantitative backgrounds and sociable personalities at ADC.
