Yesterday I stood in front of the next generation of healthcare innovators at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University🎓
I was invited to give a guest lecture at the Positive Impact Seminar for students in the MSc Management of Innovation and Medical Business & Innovation programmes. The seminar shows future leaders real examples of positive impact, so they can reflect on where they stand and how innovation can address society's challenges.
My lecture was called "Engineering Positive Impact in the Age of AI: From personal conviction to systems that change how medicine reaches patients."
As CEO of CiNTL Pharma B.V., I shared our own journey. Our built of fully Agentic Clinical Tower platform is grounded in decades of clinical and regulatory expertise, designed to help sponsors run clinical trials in Europe and beyond more efficiently. With so much noise about AI, my view is simple: technology scales impact, but domain knowledge makes it trustworthy.
I closed with lessons to bear in mind when building something meant to make an impact on society, patients and people's lives:
*Domain expertise is your moat. Years of real experience are harder to copy than any algorithm.
*Impact is a design constraint. Build ethics and human oversight in from day one, not as an afterthought.
*Measure what matters. Impact has to be quantifiable in cost, time and lives to earn trust and capital.
*Data and compassion aren't opposites. The best innovation holds both at once.
What impressed me most was the students. Their questions were thoughtful and sharp. This is our future! The Netherlands is a force to be reckoned with, and with drive and vision like theirs, the next unicorns may well come out of these classrooms.
A heartfelt thank you to Amir Houshang Omidvari for inviting me to the Positive Impact Seminar, and to Jasmien Khattab, Academic Director of the MSc Management of Innovation, for hosting me so warmly. It was a privilege to be part of it.
