Studio Louter

Studio Louter Studio Louter is a content design studio for museums. We help make stories unforgettable. We call our approach Emotion Design.

We believe people need meaningful stories to help them understand the world. The more we emotionally involve them in a story, the better they’ll remember the message. It's about facts, meaning and emotion. Because what you feel stays with you. Developing a museum experience involves a series of steps. We provide content design at every stage – master planning, interpretive planning, creative advice, and concepts and narratives for exhibitions, interactive media and film.

How can museums become better storytellers?

Last Monday, Pepijn Wilbers gave an interesting online lecture about our Emotion Design Method during the Future Museum Meeting in Vienna.

Future Museum is a joint research project of Fraunhofer IAO and Museum Booster, to assist museums in applying cutting-edge know-how in their strategic planning and to create a network of museum leaders, public authorities, donors and suppliers for the exchange of ideas and collaboration.

Thank you Future Museum for this wonderful invitation!

Between 27 August and 5 September, Utrecht is filled with early music during the & Seizoen Oude Muziek festival. This edition of the international festival focuses on rhetorical gestures of any kind: vocal, instrumental, and acting. Early music meets theatre and other art forms in an interactive exhibition. What can we learn from historical acting techniques in a digital age?

The organisation asked us to help with the concept development of the exhibition. We organised an inspirational pressure cooker session. The outcome of it is now visible in the Jankserk located in Utrecht.

After last weeks press conference about the renovation of the National Holocaust Museum, there has been quite some media coverage on this beautiful project. Check the articles (in Dutch) here:

Together with Joods Cultureel Kwartier, OPERA Amsterdam and Office Winhov, we are creating a permanent exhibition for the National Holocaust Museum. After the renovation, the museum will be all about humanity. The victims of World War Two will be rehumanised. For example, we developed Forget-Me-Not, a uniquely designed showcase filled with personal objects, photo's and memories to tell the personal stories of the victims.

Het nieuwe Nationaal Holocaustmuseum heeft de plannen bekend gemaakt voor de inrichting. Er is 26 miljoen euro voor de verbouwing van het pand, de voormalige Hervormde Kweekschool in Amsterdam.

Putting the finishing touch to the new visitor center of Ysselsteyn German War Cemetery.

The cemetery is the Netherlands’ largest military burial ground. Nearly 32,000 dead, most of them fallen in the Second World War, lie here. The majority are German soldiers, but there are also Dutch collaborators. The cemetery is therefore a highly emotionally charged place.

Together with OPERA Amsterdam, we’re developing a new visitors centre where people will be able to look at the war through different eyes.

“Re-enacting war experiences in a modern graphic novel gives today's students a richer and immersive understanding of human behaviour in difficult times in the past.” - Jury Comenius Edumedia Award 2021

We are honoured to announce that we have won a Comenius Edumedia medal for ‘War Diary of Drenthe’!

Together with Wonderment by Design, we created the educational program ‘War Diary of Drenthe' for Drents Archief. During a school trip to the archive, pupils dive inside the lives of five young people who experienced the Second World War. With the aid of augmented reality, pupils create an emotionally moving comic in a one-of-a-kind way!
