Exciting news! We're happy to announce the launch of the Circular Innovation Collective program guide!

Launched during the , the CIC is "sharing the recipe" for designing and executing local innovation programs for local governments to foster circular innovation within their cities and regions.

Gathering insights from its first pilot program in the Metropolitan Region Amsterdam, the guide offers practical and comprehensive instructions for scoping out, designing, and executing local innovation programs.

Here’s what Egon Van Wees, Program Coordinator at Amsterdam Impact said about the program:

"To transition to an impact economy we need to radically change our approach. We need to work with front runners and entrepreneurs that tackle societal challenges and influence the broader ecosystem. With the CIC approach you can do just that.”

Wanting to empower other cities and regions across Europe, the CIC is sharing its FREE program guide to accelerate the transition to the new circular economy.

CIC alumni featured by Fashion United | With 92 million tonnes of textile waste produced yearly, how can we involve consumers in circular fashion and the conscious, responsible use of clothing?

Find out in this Fashion United article featuring Circular Textile Innovation Accelerator alumni Byewaste, Race Against Waste and DeSteek > https://bit.ly/FashionUnitedCIC24Aug

By pioneering sustainable concepts and production methods, these three startups prove that responsibility and innovation can go hand in hand and that style and ethics are not mutually exclusive.

The Circular Textile Innovation Accelerator is part of the Circular Innovation Collective (CIC). CIC is a collaboration between three impact-driven organizations, Impact Hub Amsterdam, Metabolic, and Bankers Without Boundaries, made possible by the Municipality of Amsterdam, DOEN Foundation, and Goldschmeding Foundation.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined the networking workshop and drinks today to work towards a 70 per cent textile sector in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (MRA)!

The Circular Innovation Collective (CIC) hosted a networking workshop today at Impact Hub Amsterdam to offer the startups and SMEs from the Circular Textile Innovation Accelerator the opportunity to get in touch with possible partners to (re)design the circular textile value chain together. Think manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, product development managers, knowledge experts, and policymakers.

It’s the mission of the MRA to bring about a paradigm shift within the textile sector. MRA’s goal is a 70 per cent circular textile sector by 2030, which requires fundamentally different thinking. It takes industry-wide collaboration and innovation to create a change.

“It shouldn’t be an option to design to be thrown away.”

Designers are in an excellent position to redesign the way we live using circular design, given that over 80% of product-related environmental impacts stem from the design phase.

“It shouldn’t be an option to make it fast. It shouldn’t be an option to design to be thrown away. It shouldn’t be an option to design to be disposable,” says Carla Fernández, whose fashion house is dedicated to preserving and revitalising the textile legacy of the indigenous communities of Mexico.

What Design Can Do published a video series featuring four renowned designers. Alongside Carla, Bas van Abel (Fairphone), arthur huang (MINIWIZ) and Poonam Bir Kasturi (Daily Dump - Compost at Home) weigh in on the state of the world and a designer’s responsibility to make processes and products more circular. Today, during Modefabriek in Amsterdam, the largest fashion trade event in Benelux, and the haute couture Paris Fashion Week, Metabolic, Bankers without Boundaries and Impact Hub Amsterdam are officially launching a flagship pilot on textile value chains. In this pilot, our goal is to help the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area achieve its goal of 70% circular textiles by 2030.

The launch comes with the report 'Vision for a regenerative and circular textile industry', written by Metabolic. The Circular Innovation Collective (CIC) has conducted this intensive research to identify the opportunities to accelerate the transition towards a circular value chain in the textile sector.

"Maak het circulair, of maak het gewoon níét," zegt Richard van der Laken. "Ik wil een broodrooster met schroeven."

Richard is oprichter en creative director van platform What Design Can Do.

Redesign the world we live in

“We are constantly producing loads of sh*t,” visionary engineer Arthur Huang exclaims. “I hate that people are still talking about the circular economy and not doing anything.”

In a new video series for its , What Design Can Do asked Huang and three other leading creatives to weigh in on the changing responsibilities of design and the art of transforming outrage into action.

Filmed in Taipei, Amsterdam, Mexico City and Bangalore, this campaign tells the stories of four renowned designers working to change their industries from the inside out. First up is Arthur, co-founder and CEO of MINIWIZ, a closed-loop architectural firm known for upcycling waste into everything from tables and chairs to aircraft and hospital wards.
