The Stockholm region is growing – thousands of job opportunities in the construction industry

Need for labor to carry out planned construction investments in the Stockholm region is estimated at over 100,000 job opportunities in 2017 and 2018.
The demand is greatest for building and construction workers, construction craftsmen, painters and finishers.

A compilation of planned construction projects in the Stockholm region shows that planned investments amount to EUR 95 billion through 2030, over half of which are planned for 2017 and 2018. A majority of the planned construction investments are for apartment buildings, while tracks and railways also comprise a large sum.

“Considering the investment potential in our region, we have calculated that in order to build the projects that we have in the pipeline for 2017, we need an additional 41,000 people in our region,” says Erik Krüger, Business Development Manager at Invest Stockholm.

Planned investments have increased by about 16 percent since the initial mapping was conducted in 2015. For 2018, the need for labor is even greater, with a demand for 73 838 persons in order to proceed construction as planned.

“Stockholm is growing at an unprecedented rate and we’re building more homes than ever before in modern history. The planned investments create jobs for construction professionals, as well as newly graduates from vocational programs,” says Mayor of Stockholm Karin Wanngård (S).
The study of planned construction projects and the competence needed was conducted on behalf of Invest Stockholm by Tyréns, one of Sweden’s leading urban planning consulting companies.

To learn more about the investment opportunities and competitiveness of the Stockholm region, international investors and real estate professionals are invited to meet with representatives of the Stockholm region at ExpoReal in Munich on October 4-6 in booth B1.221.
