Wishing you all a Happy, Healthy, and Productive 2021 🍾💥🎉

2020 has been such a challenging year for so many. It has challenged us to think differently, love more deeply, and appreciate more fully. Let us work together in 2021 to bring focus to the things in life that are truly special.

From a healthy work perspective, 2020 could very well be the accelerator we needed, and 2021 the greatest opportunity to seize. We have proven that focused work from home works, indoor climate and environment has been brought to the forefront, and the need/desire to collaborate in person is clear. Let us design the way we work for the future in 2021.

We look forward to researching and driving the discussion further.

Everybody is talking about ventilation and the importance of good air quality to combat COVID-19, but where to start?

This video outlines the basics in a very clear and concise way. The requirement, the challenges, as well as the cost. For those that can't afford it, natural ventilation is a good starting point.

If you would like to measure how your ventilation is performing, let's do it. We have sensors we can hang up for a couple of weeks and get a read on it for you.

"Those kinds of check-ins are important for all employees amid growing feelings of isolation and uncertainty, said Nicholas White, managing director of Learn Adapt Build (LAB)/Amsterdam. In many ways, managers must relearn how to effectively manage workforces with an emphasis on the nuances of remote working.

“Without clear direction, coaching, or guidance, people are often left to navigate this difficult journey on their own,” White said. “Individuals can build stories that overwhelm – am I going to lose my job? Am I doing enough? Is my manager happy with me? This on top of managing everything else at home can be a recipe for disaster.”

This pandemic has shown us that working from home works for many now, and for those that it doesn't, requires additional support in order to keep workers healthy and safe.

That said, It is time to take stock of the opportunities in front of us to design a better tomorrow.

Think about what we have learned:

✅ We can trust our people to do their best and the right thing even when we are not in the same space
✅ People don't need to be watched, they need support and inspiration (leadership, management, coaching)
✅ Balancing work, life, health, and wellbeing is actually a more natural way of living and is a healthier way of living

Isn't this telling us to break our old norms and structures and work differently?

Set a direction, support people with processes, tools, and resources, and coach them to navigate their journey.

The rest should be up to them. Not only will people feel better, but the business results will also be better too.

Before we doom the Hybrid model, it is important to define what the optimal hybrid model is. What this article get's wrong, is defining the hybrid model as a group in the office vs. a group out. Of course, if we give some people access to the office and others not, this is going to create challenges, resentment, lack of certainty, lack of recognition, connection & trust. But a true shift for to hybrid is better than that.

1️⃣ Think about what your employees want and need in order to do their job
2️⃣ Set clear expectations, agreements, and accountability, on what they are responsible for
3️⃣ Provide them the resources, flexibility, and support to do their work in the way they see fit (Do your job to manage the resources/sevices- i.e. your offices, your technical infrastructure, your leadership, coaching, and mindful support)
4️⃣ Manage accountability and delivery of the results

This is a moment of a culture shift. Thinking about work, life, and balance differently. An opportunity to improve our lives, take the BEST of both worlds, and design our schedules in a way that fits our personalities. We should measure what we are doing because if done right, is good for business too. Let's view this as an opportunity rather than anything else.
