Right after graduating from the Gerrit Rietveld academy in Amsterdam I embraced one of my dreams. I really wanted to develop and present my work in New York City. I was so ready for it!

I got accepted for an art residency in a contemporary performance gallery 'Glasshouse ArtLifeLab' in Brooklyn, where I was cooking and feeding gallery visitors in multiple settings and with various lenghts of my handmade cutlery.
Looking back at this work with today's eyes, it almost feels like a prediction of the pandemic and our behavior changes. Check the Youtube link below, if you are curious. Let me know what you think! 😉

My intention with this performance back then was to slow down the crazy Rat Race by the use of heavy and elongated cutlary. It worked fantastic, I managed to bring my audience in a meditative state through these meals and to connect them to their senses.

I love this life hack - find 3 hobbies, 1 to make you money, 1 to keep you in shape, and 1 to hone your creative craftsmanship skills. Studies are finding that crafting is good for mental health. The repetitive actions of craftsmanship (knitting, sewing, constructing etc) has been likened to meditation. Some studies also show that when we're busy with creative crafts, our brains release dopamine, a natural anti-depressant, therefore creativity that takes concentration is a non-medicinal way of getting a feel-good high. It also calls on parts of the brain that are being used less and less often in our world of modern conveniences. Are you also creating amazing things with your hands? Are you already selling what you have made or planning to (or not planning)? Myself I'm creating fashion and soap designs - all to do with senses and the body. Intuitive process! ❣️
