Why are they so passive?

"Why are some people not active in online courses, webinars or in virtual teams? Why are they so "passive"? Is "more engagement" the magic action required? When participants are "silent", does that mean that they are not involved? That they are not learning or participating?

No!

Members of the NVL Distans network of the Nordic Network for Adult Education (NVL.org) worked on these questions during two years. You will find their findings and recommendations in "Silent Learners -a guide". Download see below.

I was participating by sharing my expertise and experience of virtual teams, designing and executing a webinar on Silent Learners and writing a blog about "Inclusive course design". (See chapter 4.5 of the guide and https://www.xwebinar.nl/sl/ for the recording and more info of the webinar)

I hope "Silent Learners -a guide" add more understanding of working in diverse online groups to your work online. When you are an online facilitator or instructional designer, I hope you will get some ideas how to make your online learning and collaborating more inclusive.
