Cattail Floor mat is a biodegradable home decor accessory for indoor and garden decor. It is hand weaved in twine from plant-based fibre 'Cattail' by a group of village communities in Nepal.
Our Cattail is locally sourced in Nepal. This wetland grass grows along the riverbanks in the Terai region. The fibre from the stem is rough and is similar to jute, whereas fibres obtained from the leaves are soft and fluffy. These biodegradable fibres are widely used as textiles and raw materials in many south Asian countries.

Our 'Kans grass mats' are multi-function home accessories. For an ethnic modern decor, make a collage on the walls of various sizes or use them as dining mats.

These round mats are hand weaved by the indigenous women of the Tharu community in Nepal with the training and guidance from our social partner knot craft centre, under a joint mission

The material we use is known as Kans or thatch grass. It is a perennial grass growing up to three meters in height in the wilderness of the Terai
region in Nepal. The fibre extracted from Kans grass is strong and flexible. Villagers in remote Nepal harvest this grass to thatch roofs and fence vegetable gardens.

Kans grass mats are available in 70, 30, 25, 20 and 15 cm diameters.

Handcrafted in Nepal by women in the comfort of their homes, our ' Blessing angels ' are out of cornhusk and recycled wood, carrying a thoughtful message.

This wooden craft is locally known as THAAL in the Raute language. It is used as a food serving plate. Also known as the Kings of the Forest, the Raute's are the last about 150 nomads of Nepal, camping around the remote forests of Dailekh, Kalikot, Jajarkot, Dang, Achham and Jumla.
Due to their nomadic lifestyle, these Raute's does not have access to modern wares. Instead, they carve bowls from tree trunks commonly found closer to their camps and use them in their daily lives. In exchange for clothes and grains, they often trade their crafts. The trademark of Raute's carving is its unique indented pattern, which is created by a primitive carving tool known as Basula.
Each Raute craft is ' unique on its own ' and ' a piece of a time '.

Over the years, The Rautes have been intensely scrutinised by local authorities and residents for their ' not normal ' way of life. As a result, they shun away from modern civilisation despite the pressure, wishing to consolidate their traditional nomadic lifestyle.

When this generation passes on, the way of life of one of the last nomadic hunter-gatherers of the Himalayan foothills will disappear forever. And with them will go a distinct language, culture and a system of beliefs.

Desperately fighting for their survival, these Rautes are dignified people with their roots in the deep forest of Nepal.
