Last week, Svetlin and I attended the 28th International Passive House Conference in Essen - a special edition marking 30 years of the Passive House Institute and 35 years since the first Passivhaus was built by Wolfgang Feist. 🏅
✍ A few takeaways I’m bringing back:
- Inspiring to see the HUGE scale Passive House has reached globally - from "The House at Cornell Tech" and "Winthrop Center" to large-scale residential developments in Ireland.
- New milestones: Sendero Verde in the US now holds the record as the tallest Passive House building - 709 units.
- The University of Oxford is raising the bar with the largest Passivhaus scheme in England (25,000+ m²) and the first certified Passive House concert hall - the Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities.
- A good reminder: highly insulated buildings without proper ventilation (MVHR) can lead to lower occupant satisfaction than less insulated ones. If you do it — do it right.
- With Europe moving toward Zero Emission Buildings (ZEB), Passive House is proving to be a strong fit thanks to its extremely low operational energy demand.
👉 Great conversations, fresh perspectives, and plenty to think about moving forward.
