On the startup side, the reasons deals fail are consistent year after year. The most cited cause, in 42% of post-mortems, isn’t a bad product or a weak team. It’s no real market need. Running out of cash comes next at 29%, then team problems at 18%, then competition at 17%.

A strong deck gets a founder in the room. It doesn’t survive the question that follows: how does this become something people actually pay for, and what happens to the plan if the technology timeline slips. The applications and pitches that go the distance are the ones where the commercial strategy was built alongside the technical one, not bolted on afterward.
