Flowering and first grape clusters forming. Although only in our second year, we let the grapes form to evaluate the growth/suitability of the different varieties. So far, Cabernet Cortis seems to be well established with large grape clusters. Cabernet Cantor does not grow upright so need for constant training of the vines. About 20% of Solaris had not grown enough in the last season so we cut them back.

Growing quite fast: Carbanet Cortis has quite some vigorous growth and seems to bear more flowers (and potentially more grapes later). The stems grew nicely thick in the first year.

Solaris and Cabernet Cantor seem to be struggling a bit. About 50% (10) Solaris had to be cut back to thicken the stem. Cabernet Cantor has too many weak stems and needs more time to fully establish.

We will however let all bear some grapes for testing particularly the ripening, disease tolerance and of course achievable sugar content

The new growing season has began and the grapes are doing well so far. Trellising has been completed and training the vines on the trellis wire is ongoing. Looking forward to a promising season (with potentially a few cluster of grapes just for tasting)

After the bouts of heavy rain and very hot weather, everything is growing quite fast. Its now about 2.5 months since planting the grapes and quite a number are at least 60cm long

About 3 weeks after planting the first batch, grapes seem to be finally growing.. It's been dry and we had to water a few times. By now (01June), heavy rains have soaked the ground and the growth is impressive (though not uniform)

Finally, as at 13 May, all 60 vines are planted (20 each for Solaris, Cabernet Cantor and Cabernet Cortis). The grass has nicely sprouted and some red onion is doing fine. Between some rows, vegetables, green manure will be planted in the coming weeks

First 40 vines planted

On 03 May 2022, the first batch of 40 vines was delivered. This contains 15 Solaria (White), 10 Cabernet Cortis (red) and 15 Cabernet Cantor (red) vines on an SO4 rootstock, purchased via www.wijnbouw.nl. We soak the vines in a bucket of water untill weekend for planting.
