🟥 World AIDS Day - December 1 🟥
Today, on World AIDS Day, we join others to raise awareness about the ongoing global HIV/AIDS epidemic and its impact on children. As part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign we also shed light on the crucial link between gender-based violence and HIV infection.
Women and girls are disproportionately affected by both violence and HIV. Gender-based violence—whether physical, sexual, or emotional—greatly increases a woman's risk of acquiring HIV. Survivors of violence are often denied their rights to healthcare, education, and protection, and many face increased vulnerability to HIV due to power imbalances, unsafe sexual practices, and lack of access to preventive measures.
On this World AIDS Day, let’s commit to:
1. Breaking the Silence: Speak out against gender-based violence and its role in the spread of HIV/AIDS.
2. Supporting Survivors: Empower those who have experienced violence and provide access to the resources they need to heal and protect their health.
3. Education & Prevention: Advocate for sexual and reproductive health education, gender equality, and access to healthcare for all women and girls.
The fight against HIV/AIDS is not just about treatment; it’s also about prevention, empowerment, and equality. Together, we can end both the stigma of HIV and the violence that fuels it.
Let’s honor the lives of those affected by HIV/AIDS including children and take action to create a world where violence, stigma, and discrimination are no longer barriers to health and dignity.
