Organizations should be working on increasing ‘organizational commitment’ which is a lot harder to do because that means that the organization in all its facets has to transform.

Have all those organizational development programs not helped?

My call to action to you is: stop wasting your time on those ‘miracle cures’ which are currently available on the consultancy and training markets and start in earnest considering applying the HPO Framework. Muster the courage and discipline to start an HPO transformation which, yes, will require effort and time (‘no pain no gain’) but will also be well-worth it, as the examples shows!

How do organisations deal with the coronavirus?

In these dark Corona times, there is one bright spot: the growing solidarity in society. Everywhere we see initiatives where people help and support each other.

Undoubtedly more examples and ideas will surface in the coming days and weeks. Please share these with us ([email protected]) so we can once in a while email an update. And in the meantime: be careful and stay healthy!

In these dark Corona times, there is one bright spot: the growing solidarity in society. Everywhere we see initiatives where people help and support each other. We also see this togetherness appear within organizations. During a telephonic tour of our relations – organizations that are working on ...

Mijn laatste blog staat online: Even more proof - management matters

What has happened in the popular literature these past years? Why are managers continuously denounced in these magazines and blogs and put aside as being non-relevant or even detrimental to the performance of an organization? Since the beginning of modern economic science management has been seen as

My argument is quite clear: you are the most creative when you are the least active. Excellent news isn’t it, take regular downtime and the most interesting ideas will come to you virtually automatically...

No, it is not under stress or when in danger … it is during your sleep! Exactly, the time your body and by extension you yourself takes a rest that this small grey blob on top is overly active. Repairing damages, storing memories, preparing and conducting an overall reset … it is almost unbeliev...

As the HPO Framework has only been around for one decade it is still relatively young and – although I am very happy about the large number of organizations who have taken note of the HPO Framework and who have actually started applying it – there is still a way to go before my ambitious goal, having the framework generally accepted in all industries worldwide, is achieved. But with the help of the organizations where we are doing HPO Diagnoses and you, the readers of my blogs, I am convinced we will get there, thus helping the business world becoming a better place!

I regularly get the question whether the HPO Framework is high-performing itself, in the sense that it will stay valid and be around for an extended period. Of course, it is difficult to look into the future but I think I might have a satisfactory answer on this question, which is basically twofold.

The latest blog by Andre de Waal about the importance of giving and receiving feedback in High Performance Organizations.

“It has been said that to avoid learning and growing, do nothing, say nothing, but end up being nothing. In high-performance organizations, feedback is a sine qua non (an essential condition)”, according to esteemed INSEAD professor Manfred Kets de Vries.

I knew it: direct interaction between teacher and student is important for effective knowledge transfer. But wait, this same effect, the positive consequences of direct contact, also occurs in high performance organizations and high-performance partnerships!

I have always felt a certain trepidation about the whole virtual university and e-learning business. As a teacher I always enjoy the face-to-face contact I have with students.

...This fear culture – described as (extreme) undesirable behavior which continues to exist because people involved stay silent out of fear for repercussion or exclusion from the group – often appears in organizations that have a closed and hierarchical culture...

Recently several Dutch organizations appeared negatively in the news because of several unappetizing happenings. The work climate in the Dutch Army was described as ‘rotten’, the relations between officers in a certain Dutch court were completely disturbed, and there were many mishaps and abuses...

What are your organizational bad habits?

I have never been a fan of ‘best practices’. I rather talk about ‘best ideas’ because for me ‘best practices’ are for lazy organizations that rather copy what other organizations have done instead of being creative themselves.
