Yesterday, the rare gold 1672 medal commemorating the murder of the De Witt brothers sold for almost €160,000 in our Coins, Currency and Medals Auction. A record result for a Dutch medal.

Struck in gold and weighing over 234 grams, this historically important piece is among the most iconic Dutch medals ever made. Its subject, rarity and impressive provenance drew strong attention from bidders in the room, online and by phone.

Starting at €30,000, the medal quickly climbed to a remarkable final result. A memorable moment in the auction, and a result that once again underlines the strong appreciation for exceptional Dutch numismatic material.
