People tend to choose ideas that are more obvious when they think they also have to implement them. 💡

But does this thinking also apply to 11 and 12 year olds?

A research team consisting of researchers from Maastricht University and the Education Monitor Limburg examined whether 11 and 12 year olds also have the tendency to choose a more obvious idea if they know they have to implement it.

5 praktische tips om je creativiteit een boost te geven 🚀

1️⃣ Creativiteit heeft een strategie nodig

Denk na over welke trends jouw organisatie de komende 10 jaar zullen beïnvloeden en maak een trendkaart.

2️⃣ Stel het probleem vast voordat je zoekt naar een oplossing

Stap af en toe eens uit je comfortzone en zoek 30 minuten om met een klant of werknemer te praten. Je zult versteld staan van wat je te weten komt!

3️⃣ Creativiteit kent geen hiërarchie

Nodig bij brainstormsessies niet alleen de ‘usual suspects’ uit, maar verbreed je groep. Dit voorkomt een tunnelvisie en het zorgt ervoor dat elke stem telt in plaats van alleen de luidste.

4️⃣ Verken meer!

Er zijn veel creativiteitsstimulerende oefeningen. Vind de oefeningen in het artikel!

5️⃣ Mislukking is de weg naar succes

Maak een storyboard waarin je elke stap tekent die je klant zal ervaren in de interactie met je nieuwe product of dienst.

The game of chess got a worldwide boost after Netflix broadcast their hit series The Queen’s Gambit in late 2020. ♟

But, what if lead character Beth Harmon would have had to face her competition via a computer screen?

“Working from home harms the quality of work when it comes to mentally demanding tasks.”

That is what Universiteit Maastricht’s researchers, Steffen Künn and Christian Seel together with colleagues from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University found out.

They discuss that for mentally demanding tasks, the presence of colleagues seems important to stay sharp and get into the right mode.

The outcome is at odds with other studies on working from home, which show that people can concentrate better at home than at the office.

Valerie Houlihan kijkt vol lof terug op het programma:

“Ik zette soms onterecht mensen weg als dwarsligger of tegenligger maar ik besef nu dat ik even wat beter moet luisteren naar deze mensen. Vaak gaat het niet alleen om wat ze zeggen maar welk probleem daaronder ligt. Door meer empathisch te luisteren en door vragen te stellen bereik je veel meer want dan voel je waar de pijn zit en kun je er ook iets mee doen. Dat was voor mij een echte eyeopener.”

Hoe kunnen we leidinggeven met voldoende rust en ruimte, zonder verlies van richting of resultaat ❓

Tijdens een recente, zeer goed bezochte WebTalks sessie stond Frans Wilms stil bij verschillende aspecten van verbindend leiderschap om antwoord te geven op deze prangende vraag.

Tijdens de WebTalk kwamen de drie fasen van verbindend leiderschap aan bod:

1. Open minded zijn
2. Besef dat transformatie begint bij jezelf
3. Het toepassen van “de magie van U”

Ook legde Frans een strategie uit hoe je de fasen van verbindend leiderschap kan oefenen.

We are at the beginning of a new revolution: Robots are everywhere 🤖

Imagine a robot that welcomes your visitors at the reception desk, serves your meal at a restaurant or keeps you company in an elderly home.

Nowadays this is no longer a futuristic dream.

It might even sound a bit dull with little added value, but a combination of the right business case with the user experience could have great impact on the company results.

Prof. dr. Prof. dr. Gaby Odekerken-Schröder recently gave an interview on BNR Nieuwsradio’s podcast “De Werkprofessor” about service robots and what added value they can bring to the workplace.

By deploying robots for support, time can be freed up for (human) employees so they actually have time for a chat with the customer or for more individual attention to a patient.

Should people who are vaccinated against COVID-19 enjoy more freedom than people who are not? 💉

56% of people consider it reasonable for people who have been vaccinated to enjoy more freedom than people who have not, while 21% of the respondents disagree.

This is based on research from Maastricht University researcher Roselinde Kessels that studies the policy options the government could take to increase vaccination uptake.

People perceive the vaccination certificate to be a form of reward for socially good behaviour and they consider reward to be preferable to punishment.

There is sufficient support among the Dutch population for the introduction of a vaccination certificate to actively encourage people to be vaccinated. This has become apparent from representative research among 1,640 Dutch people.
