𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀? 𝗡𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗚𝗦𝗧!

Earlier this year, Brownline Canada surveyed two horizontal directional drills in Mildred Lake, Alberta. Our client Directional Drilling was tasked with the trenchless relocation of a sanitary sewer line.

The new sewer line was installed under wetlands and a highway. Surface access was very limited, so the job required a guidance system that does not rely on measurements taken from the surface above the bore line. Brownline's Drillguide GST works independently of its surroundings, which made it the ideal system to steer these pilot drills to the exit stake. 🧭

The result? Two highly accurate and efficient crossings, a smooth installation of the sanitary sewer line, and a satisfied client. 🎯

This year marks twenty years since Brownline made an HDD crossing possible at an impossible location: under 62 railway tracks at marshalling yard Kijfhoek. Together with Van Leeuwen Sleufloze Technieken, Brownline made history by proving that it was indeed possible.

Bertjan Molenaar looks back on the excitement surrounding the project, the successfull drill, and the impact it had for Brownline. 💬

"This was the first real crossing where you had to rely entirely on the gyro. We had a client who was up for the challenge, but we still had to prove it."

"Everyone in the HDD industry who sees a photo of this job says, 'That's impossible.' They immediately see the problems, especially back then. Nowadays we no longer think in terms of magnetism, but back then everyone did, because that was the standard. With an overview photo of the marshalling yard, we were able to show that this wasn't possible back then, and since then it is possible. That, I think, is the power of this crossing."
