A great gift for “biodiversity day”. Provincie Zuid-Holland and Gemeente Rotterdam are jointly hosting a garden at the China Flower EXPO 2021 in Shanghai, at the invitation of the Shanghai municipality of Chongming because of the sister relationship between the two harbour cities.

The China Flower Expo is the largest and most influential flower event in China. The opening of the 10th edition of the China Flower EXPO, themed "Blossom with the Chinese Dream", was on May 21. The Flower Expo will run until July 2, 2021, with more than 3 million visitors are expected.

DSBP has supported PZH and Rotterdam to realise this project where a 500 m2 garden has been built based on the design of Green Art International under the direction of designer Bert Dautzenberg featuring the theme, ’Pathway to Future, Unravel the Maze’.

Usually, during the Christmas and New Year period, we look back and look forward. 2020 - May be a year we wanted to pass soon and 2021 is the year that we look forward to.

In January 2020, the same as everyone, we heard about the name “Coronavirus” for the first time. Who would have thought that within a few months, it reached every corner of the world and swept out half of our “business support” business? Shock, anger, and confusion did not stop our team spirit. At the deepest hours, we kept on working to bring our clients closer to a foreign market is our goal. If we cannot physically be there, we use our creativity to service our clients.

We want to remember 2020 as the year - we won a European Horizon 2020 project for the first time and established a foundation focusing on climate adaption projects. We continuously helped our clients to understand the sales in both the Chinese and the European market.

Many things to look forward to working together with you, our business relations, for better access to the market and a greener world. ☘️☘️🙌🏻🙌🏻

COVID-19 changed us in many ways.

It changed how we live, how we work, how our city runs.

What has changed?

For our company: no business missions to China anymore and no delegations from China to be accompanied. But, it gives us plenty of time to look into our organization, our strength and most importantly our sources of passion. Our managing partner Nan Su grew up in a megacity - She calls it a “concrete desert” and didn’t know what “biodiversity” meant, because in a metropolitan area, you don’t see many different species than a human being. Adding on with challenges such as climate change (heat stress, frequent flooding and longer droughts, loss of biodiversity), healthy food supply for megacities.

We finally have “time” to think about it - what can we do with our knowledge, network and expertise? And of course, we take actions. Establishing the EU Green Cities & Sites Development Foundation - Enabling Nature-Based Solutions.

Can we bring positive influence in this world and meanwhile build a healthy business model?

2019 was a year of turbulence. The Trade war between China and the USA influenced the relationship between China and the West.
2019 was a year of concern, the China Strategy was published by the Dutch ministry of foreign affairs, and many did not agree with it because it was not tough enough in their eyes.
There has been more attention on China in the media and in conferences than ever before: the development of China, the influence of China, the threats of China.

2019 was also a year of pride. DSBP’s office in Shanghai grew with 2 new colleagues, DSBP’s Dutch office has further specialised itself in the focal sectors (Governmental relations, Environmental Resources Management and Agri-Horticulture business)
We are very proud that our director Nan Su won the prestigious title of Rotterdam Business Woman of the year 2019. Actually three out of four directors in DSBP are female.
Their success comes from their hard work, support of their family and colleagues. But to be able to start this journey of building a successful career, they all got high level education.
We are grateful with the opportunity we got, however, to be able to go to school is not a certain thing for everybody, especially for girls.

Therefore, we have decided that this year, our Christmas gift to you is a donation to the Malala Fund on your behalf.
We are the fortunate ones, we got the chance to learn, we work hard and we were awarded for it.
We do not want young talents to miss this opportunity, simply because they were born in a different part of this world.

With this on our mind, we wish you a healthy and happy 2020.

Bridging the supply and demand in agri- and horticulture is what we love to do!

Hij wilde alles weten over de , professor Zhang van de Agricultural University (CAU). Daarom kwam hij naar de en in het bijzonder naar . Wethouder Jeanet van der Laan begroette hem geïnteresseerd, vanuit haar rol als bestuurder van de Duin- en Bollenstreek. Professor Zhang is ook CEO van het Chinese bedrijf . Vanuit de regio houdt dit bedrijf zich bezig met innovatie in de landbouw in de breedste zin.

Sinds kort is ook in de belangstelling gekomen en is er een gebied van ongeveer 46 hectare om te experimenteren met . Omdat de tulp een bekende en geliefde bloem is in China, wil de professor juist tulpen een kans geven in dit gebied. Hij is daarom op zoek naar bedrijven die aan hem ‘first quality bulbs’ willen leveren en ook de kennis hoe die te telen.

Daarnaast is er veel interesse in Beijing voor het vergroenen van de stad en wil de professor in de ook de introduceren. Tot slot is gesproken over kennisuitwisseling in relatie tot diverse bollenonderzoeken.

De bijeenkomst is georganiseerd door Dutch Sino Business Promotions in samenwerking met Flower Science.

De vraag van NRC deze week is "Hoe bang moeten we zijn voor China". Mijn vraag is: waarom kan een samenwerking niet Win - Win zijn?

Overnames: Chinese investeerders waren lange tijd meer dan welkom in de Europese Unie. Maar nu Beijing alleen nog strategische overnames wil, verdringt argwaan de Europese geestdrift.

Rotterdam, de stad van opgerolde mouwen en hooggehakte powervrouwen. Maar wie zijn dat eigenlijk, die sterke vrouwen aan de top?
